Georgia Seeks Input on Proposed Regulations for Buck Shoals WMA

Hunters and other interested citizens are encouraged to review proposed hunting regulations for the 2016-2017 season at the new Buck Shoals Wildlife Management Area and make plans to attend a scheduled public hearing. The Buck Shoals property, located in White County, recently was acquired by the Wildlife Resources Division from Georgia State Parks, said John Bowers, chief of the Game Management Section. Maryland Spring Turkey Season to Open Statewide April 18

Youth hunters will kick-off Maryland’s spring turkey season with a Junior Turkey Hunt Day on April 16 statewide and on April 17 in select Sunday hunting counties. The regular spring turkey season will run from April 18 through May 23 statewide. Maryland Chesapeake Bay Blue Crab Population Shows Improvement

Blue crab   The Maryland Department of Natural Resources today released the results of the 2016 Blue Crab Winter Dredge Survey, which show another year of growth in the stock of the Chesapeake Bay crab population and bodes well for a better harvest this year. The survey indicates a bay-wide crab population of 553 million, a 35-percent increase over last year. This is the fourth highest level in two decades, and builds on last year’s 38-percent boost in abundance. Due to a milder winter, favorable currents and tides, and wise bay-wide management measures, the Maryland crab population continues to rebound and strengthen, Fisheries Service Director Dave Blazer said. Missouri Angler Catches State-Record White Bass

New MO state record white bass   The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) reports James Wright of Cape Fair became the most recent record-setting angler in Missouri when he hooked a white bass on Table Rock Lake on a trotline. The new alternative method record white bass caught by Wright on April 6 weighed 3-pounds, 4-ounces with a length of 18 3/4 inches. Wright was using shad for bait to try to catch catfish, but instead he caught a state-record white bass. Missouri Releases Prairie Chickens in the Northwest

Young Missouri Turkey Hunters Harvest 4,145 Birds

According to preliminary data from the Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC), young turkey hunters harvested 4,145 birds during the 2016 spring youth season, April 9-10. Top harvest counties were Callaway and Franklin with 105 birds harvested in each, and Greene with 88 birds harvested. Hunting opportunity looks good for the 2016 spring gobbler season, according to N.H. Fish and Game Turkey Biologist Ted Walski. The spring turkey hunt opens on Tuesday, May 3, and runs through Tuesday, May 31, statewide. Last year (2015), spring turkey hunters in New Hampshire took more than 4,000 birds.
