Iowa’s pheasant hunting tradition will begin another chapter on October 29, when nearly 60,000 hunters will pursue ringnecks during the season opening weekend in fields across the state. Louisiana New Regulations Governing Night-time Take of Outlaw Quadrupeds

LA quadruped or wild pig  New regulations requiring permits for the night-time take of outlaw quadrupeds (wild pig), nutria (otter) and beaver on private property have gone into effect, the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) recently announced . The permit will be valid for a period of one year from July 1-June 30 the following year, however, they may only be used from Sept. 1 of each year through the final day of February of the next year. New Zone Boundaries for Louisiana Duck Hunters Starting Nov 5

New zone boundaries for Louisiana duck hunters will go into effect beginning Nov. 5 as the season opens with youth waterfowl weekend in the coastal and west zones. The Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries Commission adopted the new boundaries in November of 2015 for the 2016-17 hunting season. We changed from two zones to three in 2012, said Larry Reynolds, Fisheries Waterfowl Program Manager. Prospects look good for Nebraska’s pheasant, quail and partridge hunting season, which opens Oct. 29. Conditions for upland birds are better than in recent years, and pheasant and quail abundance in Nebraska this year is higher than the five-year average over most of the state. Washington Razor Clam Dig at Twin Harbors Cancelled Due to Toxin Levels

razor clam digging  Elevated marine toxin levels have prompted the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) to cancel a razor clam dig scheduled to start Friday,  Oct 28 at Twin Harbors. State shellfish managers already scratched a dig at Long Beach (that was also scheduled to start 10 28) due to elevated levels of domoic acid, a natural toxin produced by certain types of marine algae. Alaska Nelchina Winter Caribou Hunting Season Re-Opens

Alaska caribou herd in winter  All Alaska state managed caribou hunts in Game Management Unit 13—including hunts CC001, RC566 and DC485 reopened on October 21. Harvest is open to hunters who currently hold valid permits and have not yet harvested a caribou. Nelchina caribou herd numbers are currently above management objectives and biologists do not anticipate reaching a harvest quota during the winter season. The Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources will conduct its fall auction of surplus and confiscated items Oct. 31 at department headquarters in Frankfort.
