Louisiana to Close Pearl River Wildlife Management Area Due to Flooding
by TBC Press on 02/09/16The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) will close the Pearl River Wildlife Management Area in St. Tammany Parish when the Pearl River flood gauge reaches 16.5 feet, which was expected to happen sometime Monday. The closure is an automatic benchmark as set by the Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries Commission. The gate at the entrance to the WMA on Old Hwy. 11 will be closed and locked when the flood gauge reaches 16.5 feet. Louisiana Modifies Rules for Commercial and Recreational Amberjack Harvest
by TBC Press on 02/09/16The Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries Commission took action on a Notice of Intent to modify the commercial and recreational limits for greater amberjack harvest. The commercial trip limit will decrease from 2,000 pounds whole weight to 1,500 pounds whole weight. The recreational size limit will increase from 30 to 34 inches fork length. READ MORE
Deadline Feb 15 for Minnesota Novice Turkey Hunters to Register for Mentored Hunts
by TBC Press on 02/09/16The deadline is Monday, Feb. 15, to sign up for mentored turkey hunts that give youth, adults and families opportunities to learn under the guidance of National Wild Turkey Federation volunteers. The hunts for youth, adults and families are open to those who have purchased no more than one turkey license in a previous year and have not harvested a turkey. Hunters must have a valid firearms safety certificate and must be 12 years old on or before April 16. READ MORE
Minnesota to Begin Elk Research Project in the Northwestern Area

A new research project on free-ranging, wild elk of northwestern Minnesota aims to improve understanding of elk movements and habitat use. This research project is the first of its kind in Minnesota, said Dr. Gino DAngelo, deer project leader with the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources. We know very little about elk in Minnesota. Waterfowl Zone Workshops in Southwest Missouri In March

The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) invites area waterfowl hunters to two upcoming waterfowl zone workshops in southwest Missouri where MDC staff will gather hunter input about duck season dates and zone boundary locations for the 2017-2020 hunting seasons. The upcoming meetings in this part of the state will be March 1 at the Springfield Conservation Nature Center, 4601 S. Nature Center Way in Springfield, and March 2 at the Wildcat Glades Conservation and Audubon Center, 201 W. Riviera Drive in Joplin. Nebraska Public Meeting on Possible Hunter Sight-In Range in Lancaster County

North Dakota Spring Light Goose Season opens Feb 20

Residents must have a valid current season 2015-16 (valid through March 31) or 2016-17 (required April 1) combination license; or a small game, and general game and habitat license. The 2016-17 license is available for purchase beginning March 15. Nonresidents need a 2016 spring light goose season license. The cost is $50 and the license is good statewide. Nonresidents who hunt the spring season remain eligible to buy a fall season license. The spring season does not count against the 14-day fall waterfowl hunting season regulation. READ MORE

If you previously purchased a paper application card, you can use it for the fall 2016 draw, or submit the unused card for a refund. New Mexico Seeks Comments on Public-Private Land-Swap Hunting Access Agreements

The “unitization” agreements among the State Land Office, the department and several landowners are designed to benefit sportsmen and landowners.
