Florida Approves New Freshwater Bass Conservation Measures
by TBC Press on 02/12/16The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) approved sweeping changes to streamline bass regulations and increase effectiveness. Commissioners meeting at the Florida Institute of Public Safety near Tallahassee approved implementation of new black bass conservation measures, which will go into effect July 1. Anglers will be allowed to keep smaller, more abundant largemouth bass. Length limits for black bass species will be changed and many specific rules for different water bodies will be eliminated. Montana Trout Numbers Remain High in Missouri River

Missouri River trout surveys indicate rainbow numbers remain above the long-term average and brown trout numbers are near average between Holter Dam and the town of Cascade, said a state fisheries biologist. State fisheries crews last fall estimated 4,073 rainbow trout greater than 10 inches long per mile near the town of Craig on the Missouri. Not only is that above the long-term average of 3,307 rainbows per mile, but continues a trend of above average numbers for the fifth consecutive year. Take advantage of the many hunter education opportunities available right now and get hunter education certified before spring turkey season (which runs April 15-May 31 statewide plus a youth-only season April 9-10). Hunter education is required for all hunters under the age of 18 and encouraged for adults, too. South Carolina Aiken County Wildlife Area Opens Saturdays in March With Restrictions
by TBC Press on 02/12/16Aiken County's Crackerneck Wildlife Management Area and Ecological Reserve will be open to the public on the first three Saturdays during the month of March (5, 12, and 19). The final Saturday (March 26) will be reserved for a youth turkey hunt. The Crackerneck Wildlife Management Area (WMA) and Ecological Reserve is composed of 10,600 acres owned by the U.S. Department of Energy. The area is located in Aiken County, along the Savannah River and south of the town of Jackson, off SC 125. Access is through the check station gate off Brown Road. Vermont Spring Snow Goose Hunting Opens March 11
by TBC Press on 02/12/16Vermont’s spring snow goose hunt will be held from March 11 through April 22. The Vermont 2016 Spring Snow Goose Conservation Order will occur statewide. The daily bag limit is 15 snow geese, and there is no possession limit. Waterfowl hunting regulations in effect last fall will apply during the 2016 Spring Snow Goose Conservation Order with the exception that unplugged shotguns and electronic calls may be used, and shooting hours will be extended until one half hour after sunset. Virginia Reports 3 New CWD Positives in Frederick County
by TBC Press on 02/12/16Three new cases of chronic wasting disease (CWD) were detected in Frederick County during the 2015 deer hunting season. Two deer were harvested by hunters and the third was killed by a vehicle. All three deer were located within 2 miles of the West Virginia state line. In total, 13 CWD-positive deer have been detected in Virginia since CWD was first discovered in western Frederick County in fall 2009. READ MORE
Arizona Wildlife Assets to be Sold at the Outdoor Expo April 2-3

The Wildlife Assets Program enables the public to legally purchase antlers, head mounts, hides and other wildlife parts that have been seized during law enforcement investigations, obtained from animals killed in vehicle collisions or acquired through donations. California Sets 2015-2016 Waterfowl Hunting Regulations

The season length for brant in the Northern Brant and Balance of State Brant special management areas was increased to 37 days and the canvasback daily bag limit was increased to two per day. Maryland Adds Nearly 3,500 Acres to Chesapeake Forest Land

Michigan 2016 Black Lake Sturgeon Season Ends After Only One Hour
by TBC Press on 02/11/16Michigan Department of Natural Resources officials announced the 2016 Black Lake sturgeon harvest season ended after one hour Saturday, Feb. 6, with seven fish being harvested. The fishing season, which included spearing or hook-and-line fishing, was scheduled to run Feb. 6-10, or until the harvest quota had been reached. The allocation of sturgeon for Black Lake anglers this year was seven fish, although DNR officials set a quota of six fish. READ MORE
