Chattooga River Chapter of Trout Unlimited donates $10,000 to South Carolina DNR Brook Trout Study

The Chattooga River Chapter of Trout Unlimited has donated $10,000 to the S.C. Department of Natural Resources' Native Brook Trout Genetics Study. The effort by the S.C. Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is part of a major brook trout restoration program in South Carolina. Washington Deadline March 31 for Deer-Elk Multiple-Season Tags

Deer and elk hunters have until March 31 to enter their names into the drawing for a 2016 multiple-season tag, which can greatly increase the opportunity for success in the field. Georgia NEW State Record Walleye Caught On Lake Rabun

Wes Carlton GA state record Walleye   Angler Wes Carlton knows his walleye, and is awfully glad that he took time to go fish last week! Carlton, age 42, of Gainesville hooked the new state record walleye at Lake Rabun on Feb. 19.   

According to the Georgia Department of Natural Resources’ Wildlife Resources Division, this 14 lb, 2 oz, 31 ½” inch catch beat the existing state record, established in 1995, by almost 3 pounds! A new state record has to be at least one ounce greater.. READ MORE     

North Carolina Women-Only Fly-Fishing Workshop in Fayetteville April 23

The fly-fishing workshop is part of the Commission’s Becoming an Outdoors-Woman (BOW) program. Fly-fishing workshop participants will receive hands-on instruction from experienced instructors on the basics of fly fishing, including casting, knots and rod assembly and fly tying. After learning the basics, participants will test their new skills by fishing for largemouth bass and bluegill on two ponds at the center.  Participants should bring sunscreen, insect repellant, comfortable clothing and footwear. Vermont Had 4 New State Record Fish Caught in 2015

The Vermont Fish & Wildlife Department has certified four new all-time state record fish, all caught in 2015. New state records were set for the species of yellow perch, redhorse sucker, cisco and bowfin (taken by bow and arrow). 2015 was another great year for record fish catches in Vermont, said Shawn Good, fisheries biologist with Vermont Fish & Wildlife. Vermont 2016 Governor’s Youth Turkey Hunt April 23-24

Youth hunters are encouraged to sign up for the Fourth Annual Governor’s Youth Turkey Hunt this spring. The event is sponsored by the National Wild Turkey Federation (NWTF) and is open to any licensed hunter under the age of 16. 

Youth hunters will be treated to a luncheon on Sunday, April 17, at the Waterbury Fish & Game Club, where they will take part in a discussion on the importance of the hunting tradition in Vermont. Fish & Wildlife Department Commissioner Louis Porter will be in attendance for the event. Interested youth hunters are required to submit a completed application along with a letter explaining why they would like to participate in the event. Wyoming Survey Shows a Slight Increase in the Jackson Elk Herd

WY elk herd numbers show increase    Wyoming's largest elk herd is estimated to have increased in numbers slightly. Wyoming Game and Fish Department wildlife biologists detected notably few changes in the herd, which roams the Jackson Hole area, including the National Elk Refuge. LDWF Public Meetings on Proposed WMA Rules & Hunting Regulation Changes

The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) will hold eight public meetings around the state beginning Wednesday (Feb. 24) to gather comments on the proposed 2016-18 resident game hunting season dates, 2016-17 waterfowl and migratory bird hunting season dates, 2016-17 wildlife management areas (WMA) general rules and regulation changes and the 2017 wild turkey seasons and hunting areas.

LDWF will also take public comment at these meetings for the proposed establishment of a WMA on Catahoula National Wildlife Management Preserve at Kisatchie National Forest.  Public comment will be taken on all items currently under consideration as notices of intent by the Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries Commission.
