Michigan Deadline to Remove Tree Stands From Public Land is March 1

All scaffolds, raised platforms, ladders, steps and other tree-climbing devices must be taken down. Bighead Carp Caught on Minnesota River

A bighead carp was caught by a commercial angler last week on the Minnesota River near New Ulm, according to the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources. The 25-pound male fish is the first bighead carp and second invasive carp confirmed in the Minnesota River. A grass carp was caught in the same location in December. We have suspected that bighead carp have occasionally entered the Minnesota River from the Mississippi River, but this is the first confirmed capture.. Zimbabwe Park to Cull Lions Due to Over Population & Lack of Hunters

One of Zimbabwe’s largest wildlife reserves, the Bubye Valley Conservancy, recently announced that it was considering culling up to 200 lions as the cats have become increasingly overpopulated. The wildlife reserve said its current population of around 500 lions is unsustainable due to the dramatic decline in hunters, possibly caused by the controversy over Cecil, a lion killed near Hwange National Park last year. California Volunteers Needed for Bighorn Sheep Survey

The California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW), the U.S. Forest Service (USFS) and the Society for Conservation of Bighorn Sheep (SCBS) are seeking volunteers to assist biologists with a bighorn sheep survey in Southern California on March 5 and 6. Volunteers will be needed on Saturday evening and all day Sunday. No survey experience is necessary to participate but volunteers must attend an orientation on Saturday, March 5, at 6 p.m. at the Angeles National Forest Supervisor’s Office, 701 N. California Angler Lands Massive White Sea Bass Thats Possible Record Breaker

A kayak fisherman in California may have broken a 47-year-old record with this massive white seabass. The International Game Fish Association announced recently that a 74.2-pound white seabass caught by Brian Fagan of Poway will be considered for a line-class world record, as soon as he submits an application for it. The fish was caught late last month off La Jolla during what Fagan described as a routine fishing trip. At first, the angler thought he snagged the bottom, or perhaps hooked a black bass, which is protected in California. READ MORE
Minnesota Proposed Permit Area Changes in the Northeast

Missouri MDC Partners With Conservation & Agriculture Groups Against Feral Hogs

The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) has partnered with other conservation groups, agriculture organizations, and the Missouri Conservation Heritage Foundation (MCHF) to provide the state's feral hog strike team with more trapping equipment and increase feral hog communications to the public. The number of requests MDC gets asking for help with feral hogs continues to increase as landowners become aware of the problem with feral hogs and hog hunting, said MDC Agriculture Liaison Brent Vandeloecht.
