Texas Approves Changes to Deer Hunting Regulations for 2016-17

The Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission adopted a suite of changes to this year’s deer hunting regulations that includes expanding white-tailed deer hunting into 14 counties across the western Panhandle, and creating additional deer hunting opportunities in East Texas. Utah DWR Recommends More Deer Permits

You might have a better chance of drawing a buck deer hunting permit this year. Biologists with the Division of Wildlife Resources are recommending more general buck deer hunting permits — a total of 90,950 — for hunts in Utah this fall.  And, if you obtain written permission to hunt on private property, you might enjoy a great cow elk hunting experience. Washington 2016 Halibut Seasons Include New Measures to Heed Quotas

Anglers fishing for halibut in Washington waters can expect some changes in this years seasons, even though the state’s annual catch quota remains the same as in 2015.

The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) establishes halibut seasons using catch quotas adopted by the International Pacific Halibut Commission for coastal fisheries from California to Alaska. This year’s quota for recreational halibut fisheries in Washington state is 214,110 pounds. Wisconsin Preliminary Antlerless Harvest Quota Recommendations

County Deer Advisory Councils will release their preliminary recommendations regarding antlerless harvest quotas, permit levels and season structure for public review on April 4. These recommendations will help determine the 2016 Wisconsin deer hunting season structure. A public comment period will run from April 4-17, 2016. New Wyoming Bear Bait Site Registrations Begin April 1

The Wyoming Game and Fish Department reminds those who want to use bait for the upcoming spring black bear season that the registration period for new/unclaimed bear bait sites begins Friday, April 1 at 8 a.m.

Individuals registering baits on April 1 will have to do so in person (or by representative) at the appropriate regional office where the bear hunt area is located. However, after 11 a.m. on April 1, remaining sites can be registered at any regional office. Bait sites cannot be registered at the Cheyenne Headquarters Office...  READ MORE

AJ Klein with DE new state record largemouth bass   Sometimes it is the last cast that has the most favorable results, and that certainly seemed to be the case for AJ Klein after he caught a 11.10-pound largemouth bass from Wagamons Pond recently. Some anglers may not think that 11 pounds is anything more than above average, but in Delaware, it is a state record that any angler can be proud of.

Delaware 2015/16 Deer Harvest Reached All-Time High

Delaware hunters harvested 14,681 deer during the 2015/16 season – the highest number since the state’s first modern-day deer season was held in 1954 and harvest record-keeping began, DNREC’s Division of Fish & Wildlife announced today. The total number of deer taken in Delaware this season topped the previous record of 14,669 set in 2004/05, and also eclipsed last season’s harvest of 14,269 deer which had been the second-highest on record...READ MORE   

Florida Hunter Safety & Bowhunting Safety Courses Offered in March

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) is offering free hunter safety courses in five counties in March. (List follows) and free bowhunting courses in Broward and Palm Beach counties.  

Students who have taken the hunter safety online course and wish to complete the classroom portion must bring the online-completion report with them. Traditional course students must complete the entire course in person. All materials for the bowhunting course are provided free of charge. However, students are encouraged to bring whatever bowhunting equipment they have. Students should bring a pen or pencil and paper. Maryland Chesapeake Bay Striped Bass Season Opens April 16

The spring season for the state fish, striped bass, kicks off on April 16 in Maryland’s portion of the Chesapeake Bay. Spring recreational fishing opportunities for striped bass, locally known as rockfish, will run from April 16 through May 15, with a catch limit of one fish per person, per day, 35 inches or larger.

For Maryland anglers, the spring trophy rockfish season is more than just a new opportunity to fish, Maryland Department of Natural Resources Fisheries Service Director Dave Blazer said. Montana Commission Approves Expanded Shoulder Season Opportunities

The Montana Fish and Wildlife Commission approved elk shoulder seasons in 43 hunting districts for the 2016/2017 hunting season. Final information on these shoulder seasons will be available online by the end of February and at all license providers in mid-March in the 2016 Deer, Elk and Antelope Hunting regulations. A shoulder season is a firearms season that occurs outside the 5-week general firearms season. Oregon Kids Learn to Hunt Turkey April 2 at White River Wildlife Area

Register now for the annual turkey hunting clinic for kids ages 8 to 17, a popular event sponsored by ODFW and the Oregon Hunters Association. Ohio Anglers Apply Now for Trout Fishing Opportunities at Castalia State Fish Hatchery

Controlled trout-fishing opportunities on Cold Creek, one of Ohio’s unique streams, await fishing enthusiasts who enter a special lottery conducted by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR). Wisconsin Approves Rules to Modernize Licenses

A package of rules aimed at modernizing the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources' customer service licensing system gained approval Wednesday from the Natural Resources Board.

If approved by Gov. Scott Walker, the rules will modify use of carcass tags for some species and facilitate use of the new "Go Wild" licensing system, which is a combination paperless and plain paper system. Under the new rules, DNR will continue to contract with more than 1,000 vendors statewide, offer sales at DNR Service Centers and provide for online purchases through a new website - GoWild.Wi.Gov. Florida Snook Season Reopens in Gulf State Waters March 1

The recreational harvest season for one of Florida’s premier fish  ?  snook  ? reopens on March 1 in Florida’s Gulf of Mexico state and adjacent federal waters, including Everglades National Park and Monroe County. The season will remain open through April 30. In the Gulf, anglers may keep one snook per day that is not less than 28 or more than 33 inches total length, which is measured from the most forward point of the head with the mouth closed to the farthest tip of the tail with the tail compressed or squeezed while the fish is lying on its side... READ MORE
