South Carolina 2016 Special WMA Alligator Season Applications Now Available Online

The S.C. Department of Natural Resources has begun accepting online applications May 1 through June 15 for the 2016 Public Alligator Hunting season. More than 100,000 alligators live from the Midlands to the coast of South Carolina, and the population is not threatened by the regulated removal of a relatively small number of alligators. Vermont Walleye Fishing Starts May 7

The best walleye fishing in New England will begin soon in several Vermont rivers and lakes, according to the Vermont Fish & Wildlife Department. The department is reminding anglers that walleye fishing season starts in much of the state on the first Saturday in May and that regulations vary, depending on the water you are fishing.

African Nations Oppose EU Hunting Trophy Ban

Africa Oryx   Wildlife officials and conservationists in some African nations have recently and strongly opposed a proposal by the European Union to ban the importation of trophies. Most notably, Zimbabwes Climate Minister Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri said that should the proposal pass, it will be a major blow to the countrys hunting industry. 

These machinations have far-reaching consequences, perpetuating negative perception of Zimbabwes hunting industry. First Case of CWD Confirmed Overseas

Norway raindeer   It seems that chronic wasting disease (CWD) may have finally jumped across the ocean. Primarily a disease that is found in North America, the Chronic Wasting Disease Alliance announced earlier this month that CWD was detected in a free-range reindeer herd in southern Norway. It is believed to be the first reported incidence of CWD in Europe. Florida Approves Two-Part Lionfish Removal Effort for 2016

FL lionfish removal logo   The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) approved a two-part lionfish plan to further encourage removals of the invasive species in 2016. Lionfish have a potential negative impact on native wildlife and habitat and the FWC encourages divers and anglers to remove them from Florida waters whenever they can. Red Drum Bag Limit Lowered in Northwest Florida Starting May 1

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) approved a measure to lower the recreational red drum daily bag limit in the northwest red drum management zone (Escambia County through Fred Howard Park near Pasco County) from two fish to one fish per person. This change will go into effect Sunday, May 1. Texas Lake Alan Henry Breaks ShareLunker Drought

After 4.5 months with no entries into the Toyota ShareLunker program, Bruce Butler of Amarillo ended the dry spell with a 13.13-pound fish from Lake Alan Henry. Butler caught the season’s second ShareLunker about 4:00 p.m. April 13 from the reservoir southeast of Lubbock. It was 26 inches long and 21 inches in girth.
