New Cobia Regulations Seek to Rebuild South Carolina Fishery

Cobia Fishing   Responding to concerns from the public and data collected by S.C. Department of Natural Resources biologists, the South Carolina General Assembly has passed legislation to help rebuild the state’s cobia fishery. The new cobia regulations, which are effective for the 2016 season after receiving Gov. Nikki Haley's signature, include a catch-and-release period in May and smaller bag and boat limits. New Haddock Rules in Effect for New Hampshire Recreational Anglers

Marine rule changes increasing the bag limit and season for haddock are now in effect, expanding opportunities for New Hampshire’s recreational saltwater anglers. New Hampshire Moose Lottery Deadline is May 27

Want to hunt moose in New Hampshire this fall? The deadline for entering the New Hampshire moose hunt lottery is May 27, 2016. It costs just $15 for residents and $25 for non-residents to enter the lottery (non-refundable). A total of 71 permits are proposed to be issued this year. The state's moose hunt will run from October 15 - 23, 2016. Last year, the statewide hunter success rate was 69%. Each applicant can enter the lottery once a year. North Dakota’s 2016 deer season is set with 49,000 licenses available to hunters this fall, 5,725 more than last year. Jeb Williams, wildlife chief for the State Game and Fish Department, said population and harvest data indicate the state’s deer population is stable to increasing, primarily due to seven years of reduced gun licenses combined with mild winters. Wyoming Bans Aircraft Used for Spotting During Hunting Season

Oregon Tagged Trophy Trout Could Earn Anglers $50 at Phillips Reservoir

This spring ODFW will “sweeten the pot” for anglers at Phillips Reservoir by stocking 4,000 trophy-sized rainbow trout, some of which will be marked with tags good for $50. Phillips Reservoir is one of five locations in Oregon this year receiving trophy trout under a new Trophy Trout program, developed as the result of a legislative budget note focused on boosting rural economies.
