A list of all seasons and bag limits appears at the end of this news release. South Carolina's season for oysters and mussels will close on Sunday, May 15, at one half hour after official sunset, according to the S.C. Department of Natural Resources. Clam season will close on Tuesday, May 31 at one half hour after official sunset. Because of higher bacterial levels that occur when water temperatures exceed 80 degrees Fahrenheit, shellfish harvesting is prohibited during the summer months. It’s official, the new National Wild Turkey Federation Virginia Record Gobbler was harvested April 11 by Dustin Plummer in Goochland County having 7 beards. California Elk Hunts Canceled at Fort Hunter Liggett for 2016-2017 Season

The California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) has announced that there will be no elk hunts on the grounds of Fort Hunter Liggett (FHL) in southern Monterey County for the 2016-2017 season. An active military training facility, Fort Hunter Liggett has sponsored tule elk hunts since 1996. However, the facility’s primary mission is to support military training, and due to increased operational requirements, a portion of the grounds must be closed to the public. Missouri Angler Sets Another State Fishing Record

The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) reports that James Lucas of O’Fallon became the most recent record-breaking angler in Missouri when he caught a hybrid striped bass on the Mississippi River. The new alternative method record hybrid striped bass caught by Lucas on April 22 weighed 8-pounds, 6-ounces with a length of 24 3/4 inches and a girth of 18 1/2 inches.
