NJ Applications for the 2016 SBBP are Currently Available

The 2016 Striped Bass Bonus Program (SBBP) is currently closed and will reopen September 1, 2016. Permits issued for 2015 are not valid in 2016.
Applications for the 2016 SBBP are currently available. All 2015 permit holders must reapply to receive a 2016 permit. The number of permits issued will be limited at the Division's discretion based on harvest reports and other factors to ensure the 2016 quota is not exceeded. The deadline for submitting all applications is October 31, 2016 and applications postmarked after the deadline will not be processed. 2016 SBBP permits are not valid until September 1, 2016.

Pennsylvania Sets 2016-17 Hunting/Trapping Seasons

The Pennsylvania Board of Game Commissioners today set hunting and trapping seasons and bag limits for the 2016-17 license year, which begins July 1. A list of all seasons and bag limits appears at the end of this news release. The commissioners also set the number of antlerless deer licenses to be allocated, as well as the number of elk licenses to be allocated for the coming license year. shellfish-oyster   South Carolina's season for oysters and mussels will close on Sunday, May 15, at one half hour after official sunset, according to the S.C. Department of Natural Resources. Clam season will close on Tuesday, May 31 at one half hour after official sunset. Because of higher bacterial levels that occur when water temperatures exceed 80 degrees Fahrenheit, shellfish harvesting is prohibited during the summer months. Record 7-beard wild turkey   It’s official, the new National Wild Turkey Federation Virginia Record Gobbler was harvested April 11 by Dustin Plummer in Goochland County having 7 beards.  This rare gobbler ranks #21 nationally as the biggest Eastern wild turkey. Red Flag Warning Issued for Opening Fishing Weekend in Northwest Wisconsin

California Elk Hunts Canceled at Fort Hunter Liggett for 2016-2017 Season

Elk herd   The California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) has announced that there will be no elk hunts on the grounds of Fort Hunter Liggett (FHL) in southern Monterey County for the 2016-2017 season. An active military training facility, Fort Hunter Liggett has sponsored tule elk hunts since 1996. However, the facility’s primary mission is to support military training, and due to increased operational requirements, a portion of the grounds must be closed to the public. Missouri Angler Sets Another State Fishing Record

James Lucas-Record Hybrid Striped Bass   The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) reports that James Lucas of O’Fallon became the most recent record-breaking angler in Missouri when he caught a hybrid striped bass on the Mississippi River. The new alternative method record hybrid striped bass caught by Lucas on April 22 weighed 8-pounds, 6-ounces with a length of 24 3/4 inches and a girth of 18 1/2 inches. Fisheries biologists have set the special Lake La Su An Wildlife Area fishing regulations for this year, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR).
