North Dakota Rainbow Smelt Die-off Occurring in Lake Sakakawea

school of rainbow smelt   A fish kill affecting adult rainbow smelt is ongoing in portions of the upper half of Lake Sakakawea, according to Dave Fryda, Missouri River System fisheries supervisor for the North Dakota Game and Fish Department. Fryda said the cause of the die-off has been documented numerous times in North Dakota in the past. The Tennessee Fish and Wildlife Commission approved the state’s 2016-17 hunting seasons at its May meeting. Massive Texas Alligator Gar Caught and Released

Massive alligator gar   Texas Parks and Wildlife’s Coastal Fisheries division posted a picture of a massive alligator gar to its Facebook page earlier this week. The behemoth fish was caught and released in Matagorda Bay by Fish and Wildlife technician Kevin Willis, although no weight or official measurements were listed. Missouri Bowfisherman Becomes 11th Angler to Break State Record in 2016

MO river carp sucker record   The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) reports that Jonathon Randall of Conception Junction became the most recent record-breaking fisherman in Missouri when he shot a river carpsucker with his bow and arrow on Smithville Lake. The new “alternative method” record river carpsucker shot by Randall on April 23 weighed 11-pounds, 2-ounces with a length of 25 1/2 inches and a girth of 20 1/2 inches. Twelve More Cases of CWD in Pennsylvania Prompt Additional Control Measures

The Pennsylvania Game Commission during 2015 found 12 additional white-tailed deer infected with chronic wasting disease (CWD) – all in Disease Management Area 2 (DMA 2), located in southcentral Pennsylvania. DMA 2 is the only area of the state where CWD has been detected in free-ranging deer.

The latest cases bring to 22 the total number of free-ranging deer found with CWD within DMA 2 since 2012. This is the highest number of cases to be found in a single year, and more than doubles the total number of CWD-positive deer found in the wild in Pennsylvania. Kentucky Quota Elk Hunt Drawing Results Now Available Online to Applicants

Wyoming Anglers Could Receive up to $100 for Reporting Tagged Walleye

WY walleye reward tag  The Wyoming Game and Fish Department is asking anglers who catch walleye in Buffalo Bill Reservoir west of Cody to participate in a new study by returning information on tagged fish they catch.  A monetary reward is offered on some tags for reporting the information.
