Wyoming Wedding of the Waters Access Area to Close July 11-15

The Wedding of the Waters access area, a popular boat ramp and public access point to the Bighorn River near Thermopolis, will be closed July 11-15 to receive much needed improvements. Body of Toddler Found after Florida Alligator Attack at Disney World

Alligator with mouth open   Authorities recovered the body of a 2-year-old boy dragged into the water by an alligator near a Disney resort, Orange County Sheriff Jerry Demings said Wednesday. Members of the sheriff's office dive team located the remains of the toddler, identified as Lane Graves, around 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, nearly 17 hours after the reptile snatched the boy, Demings said. Georgia Waterfowl Season Dates Approved

Mallard Duck in flight  Waterfowl hunters in Georgia can do something in June that they formerly were not able to - make season hunting plans. Thanks to a new earlier approval process by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, migratory bird season hunting dates and regulations were approved for the 2016-17 season by the Board of Natural Resources.  The 2016-17 migratory bird hunting season will remain similar to previous years, including an early teal hunting season and special youth hunting days, said Greg Balkcom, state waterfowl biologist for the Wildlife Resources Division. Error Causes Some Kansas Hunters To Receive Duplicate Deer Permits

Several thousand nonresident hunters who successfully drew Kansas deer permits from the April drawing received a surprise mailing in early June. Due to a printing error at a fulfillment service contracted to print and mail permits to the 21,225 successful applicants, nearly 3,260 hunters received duplicate mailings. Montana Seeks Input on Increase in Mule Deer B License Quota, Range

After weathering a significant decline in recent years, the mule deer population in southeastern Montana is showing signs of a robust recovery. With populations well above long-term averages, Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks proposes increasing the 2016 antlerless mule deer “B” license quota from 4,500 to 7,500 throughout Region 7. The Montana Fish & Wildlife Commission endorsed that request Thursday during its June meeting in Dillon. New Hampshire Unit L and M Antlerless Deer Permits Available in Mid-July

Hunters who want the chance to take additional antlerless deer in Wildlife Management Units L and M in southeastern New Hampshire during the fall hunting seasons will soon be able to buy special permits. Hunters should note that there will be several changes in the sale of these permits this year.

Unit L Permits; Up to 750 hunters will be allowed to purchase Special Antlerless Deer Permits for Unit L this year. New this year, Unit L permits will be sold online ONLY. Sales will begin on July 12 at 6:00 p.m. Unit M Permits; Again this year, a total of up to 4,000 hunters will be allowed to purchase Special Antlerless Deer Permits for Unit M.  All Unit M permits cost $36 and come with 2 deer tags. Sales for Unit M permits will begin on July 14. Unit M permits may be purchased either online or at Fish and Game headquarters in Concord... READ MORE

New Mexico Special Oryx Hunts Available for Injured Servicemen and Women

oryx   Injured military service members can apply for an upcoming special drawing by the New Mexico Department of Game and Fish (NMDGF) to award three special oryx authorizations for hunts on White Sands Missile Range.

Applicants must be active-duty or veterans of the U.S. military and must have a disability rating of 50 percent or greater in accordance with U.S. Veteran’s Administration guidelines for receiving disabled veteran benefits. Ohio Lottery for Pickerel Creek’s Early Waterfowl Hunts will be Held Online This Year

Flock of Mallard Ducks   Hunters interested in hunting Pickerel Creek Wildlife Area on the opening day of teal season and Labor Day are encouraged to enter the online lottery, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR), Division of Wildlife. The application period opens Wednesday, June 1 and runs through Sunday, July 31.

Adults may apply for morning hunts being held each day. Hunters under the age of 18 at the time of application may apply for special youth hunts being held each afternoon. USFWS Says Moose May Warrant Future Protection in ND, MN, MI & WI

moose pair  The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has announced that a subspecies of moose found in North Dakota and three other states could warrant federal protection. The finding opens a full status review by the USFWS to determine whether moose could be listed under the Endangered Species Act. State Game and Fish Department officials emphasize the finding merely initiates a status review of moose in the Upper Midwest, and it will not affect any current state regulations in the foreseeable future.

SC June 15 Deadline to Apply for 2016 Alligator Hunting & Special WMA Season

 alligator on long   TIME RUNNING OUT: The deadline to apply for the S.C. Department of Natural Resources online applications for the 2016 Public Alligator Hunting season and the Wildlife Management Area Alligator Hunting Season is at 11:59 p.m. on June 15. Applications are accepted online. 

A $10 nonrefundable application fee is required to apply for the Public Lands Hunt and a $15 nonrefundable application fee is charged to apply for the Wildlife Management Area (WMA) Alligator Hunt. A randomized computer drawing based on a preference point system will determine the selection of hunters. Applicants can only apply and pay fees online or at one of the walk-up counters at a S.C. Department of Natural Resources (DNR) regional office in Clemson, Florence, Columbia or Charleston. No paper applications will be accepted. This year’s season will begin at 12 p.m. (noon) on Sept. 10 and run until 12 p.m. (noon) on Oct. 8... READ MORE
