Extended Hunting Seasons to Fill Texas Deer, Turkey Tags Through Jan 15

The Texas general white-tailed deer and Rio Grande turkey season closed in most parts of the state on New Year’s Day, but that doesn’t mean hunters with unused tags are out of luck. Special youth-only and late season opportunities opened Jan 2 and runs through Jan. 15. The two-week youth-only late season is open in all counties where there is a general open season for white-tailed deer or a fall hunting season for Rio Grande turkey. Three Women Located After Overnight Search in Northern Maine

An intense overnight search locates three women who became separated Sunday night while snowmobiling in northern Maine. Dorothy Gould (62) from Glenburn, Alice Meadow (50’s) from Texas and Valerie Morrow (50’s) from Garland, Maine were staying together at a camp on Smith Pond located west of Millinocket in Township T3-Indian Purchase. The three women went snowmobiling Sunday evening and were headed toward Kokadjo when they became stuck near Penobscot Pond in T1R11 between Millinocket and Kokadjo. Maine 2017 Wild Game Cooking Workshops Starting Jan

Arkansas Bowfisherman Sets New Shortnose Gar Record  Bryson Harpole of Ward didn’t only set a new bar for shortnose gar in Arkansas’s fishing records on Nov. 1, 2016; he crushed the old record for unrestricted tackle. His bowfishing catch from Cypress Bayou WMA weighed an impressive 11 lbs. 12 oz., and measured over a yard long at 36.8 inches. In addition to the 508 acres of water currently open to fishing at Paradise Public Fishing Area in Berrien County, Horseshoe 6 Lake (3-acres) will help anglers ring in the New Year as it opens to the public at sunrise on Jan. 1, 2017, according to the Georgia DNR.
