Washington Hunters Report 2016 Results by Jan 10 & Qualify for Special 2017 Hunt Drawing

Hunters who report their 2016 black bear, deer, elk, or turkey hunting results by Tuesday, Jan. 10, will have the opportunity to win one of nine deer and elk special hunt permits for the fall of 2017, Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) officials said. WDFW Game Division manager Anis Aoude said the department is offering the special permits, which will be awarded through a drawing this spring, as an incentive to encourage hunters to report their results as soon as possible. Record Gun sales in US in 2016  Threats of terrorism and a potential Hillary Clinton administration were enough to tip the scales on gun sales in America to record levels in 2016. FBI background check numbers totaled some 27,538,673 for 2016. That’s 4 million more than in 2015, and nearly double the number in President Obama’s first year as president. Montana FWP Seeking Information on 21 Canada Geese Left to Waste near Glasgow

Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks game wardens are seeking information on 21 wasted Canada geese, likely shot in mid to late December, that were found on the banks of Brazil Creek just west of Paulo Reservoir, about 10 miles from Glasgow. Twenty-two geese were found, including one that was completely processed.  The other 21 had only the breasts removed.  Under Montana regulations, all waterfowl larger than a teal duck need to have at least the breasts and thighs removed. Wyoming Wild Bison Hunting Season to Close Early in Jackson

The Wyoming Game and Fish Department’s wildlife managers in Jackson are initiating an early closure of the wild bison hunting season in Jackson to allow winter elk feeding operations to begin on the National Elk Refuge. The wild bison season, originally scheduled to run through January 10, 2017 will now conclude on Friday, January 6 half an hour after sunset. Blue Crab Trap Closure for Northwest Florida Starts Jan 5

Blue crab fishing  Recreational and commercial blue crab traps must be removed from some northwest Florida waters before Jan. 5, the first day of a 10-day trap closure. Blue crab traps may not be in state waters (shore to 9 nautical miles, including intracoastal waterways) from the Florida/Alabama state line through the Franklin/Wakulla county line from Jan. 5 through Jan. 14. Maryland Firearm Deer Hunting Season Reopens Jan 6

The winter portion of the firearm deer hunting season opens Jan. 6 in Deer Management Region B, which includes all but the westernmost Maryland counties. Hunters with a valid hunting license may use firearms to harvest sika and white-tailed deer during that period. sturgeon ice fishing  The Michigan Department of Natural Resources has announced that the 2017 lake sturgeon fishing season on Black Lake (Cheboygan County) will begin at 8 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 4. All anglers must register to participate in the lake sturgeon season. The 2017 total recreational harvest limit for Black Lake is seven lake sturgeon. Minnesota Lake Vermilion Walleye Regulation to Change

Anglers on Lake Vermilion in northeastern Minnesota will be able to keep walleye up to 20 inches long, with one allowed over 26 inches, starting with the May fishing opener, according to the Department of Natural Resources.  The new regulation will require release of walleye from 20 to 26 inches, a change that is less restrictive compared to the current regulation that requires release of walleye from 18 to 26 inches. Minnesota Special Angling Regulations go in Effect March 1

Trout anglers have all the more reason to visit Chatfield, Lanesboro, Preston and Spring Valley in southeastern Minnesota thanks to a change that effectively allows trout fishing all year long in these cities. 3rd CWD-Infected Deer Identified in Southeastern Minnesota

A third deer infected with chronic wasting disease has been discovered in southeastern Minnesota, according to the Department of Natural Resources.  A hunter harvested the deer in mid-November about 5 miles north of the two previously reported infected deer, which were killed about 4 miles west of Lanesboro. Nebraska Waterfowl Hunters Reminded to Identify Their Target

Trumpeter Swan  Nebraska waterfowl hunters are reminded that they must identify their target when hunting this winter. Trumpeter swans recently were shot in southeastern Nebraska after allegedly being mistaken for geese. Trumpeter swans are listed as an At-Risk species in the Nebraska Natural Legacy Project.
