Washington Puget Sound Crab Seasons Opens June 16 - In 3 Marine Areas
by TBC Press on 06/12/17The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) recently announced summer crab-fishing seasons for areas of Puget Sound, starting June 16 with an opening in three marine areas. Sport crab fishing gets underway Friday, June 16, in marine areas 4 (Neah Bay – East of the Tatoosh-Bonilla line), 5 (Sekiu) and 11 (Tacoma/Vashon Island), while Hood Canal opens June 24. WDFW Restricts Summer Steelhead Fishery on Columbia River - Due to Low Projections

The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) recently announced restrictions on summer steelhead fishing in the Columbia River Basin in response to projections of the lowest returns in 37 years. Fish managers expect that about 130,700 summer-run steelhead will return to the big river this year, the lowest number since 1980. Largest Minnesota Invasive Carp Captured Near Redwood Falls

A bow angler fishing in a private gravel pit near Redwood Falls Sunday caught the largest invasive carp recorded in Minnesota. The bighead carp measured 47 1/2 inches in length and weighed 61.7 pounds. Invasive fish coordinator Nick Frohnauer said the angler immediately reported the capture to the Minnesota DNR and was helpful getting the specimen delivered to the area fisheries office. Report Shows Montana Wolf Population Still Strong

Colorado Anglers Can Recieve $20 Reward for Each Northern Pike Caught at Green Mountain Reservoir

A cash-based incentive offered by Colorado Parks and Wildlife and the Colorado Water Conservation Board encouraging anglers to catch northern pike at Green Mountain Reservoir resumes this year on May 25. Indiana Bow Angler Gets Rare Alligator Gar

Alligator gar aren’t normally found in Indiana waters, but a bowfisherman harvested one June 1 in the White River in southwestern Indiana. Oregon Columbia River Nearshore Halibut Fishery Opens 7 Days a Week

The Pacific halibut nearshore sport fishery in the Columbia River Subarea will open to seven days per week, starting the week of June 5, 2017. The all-depth fishery closed, with approximately 1,000 pounds remaining on the quota. That is not enough to open for additional all-depth days. That remaining quota has been transferred to the nearshore fishery, allowing the additional days per week to be open. The nearshore fishery will be open until the revised quota of 1,511 pounds is harvested, or September 30, whichever comes first.
