More than 160 coyotes have been killed across the state since the Georgia Department of Natural Resource’s 2017 coyote challenge started in March and runs to August. American Shad Return to New Jersey's Musconetcong River  After an absence of at least a century, American shad have returned to the Musconetcong River in Hunterdon and Warren counties, the NJ Department of Environmental Protection’s Division of Fish and Wildlife and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service recently announced. The controlled hunts, held Oct. 13 and 14 under the auspices of the DNR, will take place on four designated areas ranging in size from 132 acres to 1,000 acres.  Each area is designated: Bow Only; Muzzleloader and Shotgun with Slugs; or Muzzleloader Only. Apply for West Virginia Limited Bear Firearms Season Permit by Aug 13  The West Virginia DNR is now accepting applications for a limited number of permits for black bear hunting during the traditional deer gun season in eight counties. The application deadline is midnight Aug. 13. Hunters with these permits will be allowed to hunt bear without dogs on public and private land in Cabell, Doddridge, Harrison, Lincoln, Marion, Marshall, Mineral and Wetzel counties, from Nov. 20 through Dec. 2, 2017. Resident landowners, their resident children or resident tenants who live on the land are not required to apply for a limited bear firearms season permit or purchase a class DS bear hunting stamp to hunt on their own land. High Water in Florida Prompts Restrictions for 3 Everglades WMAs  High water levels have prompted the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) to issue an executive order temporarily restricting public access to Everglades and Francis S. Taylor, Holey Land, and Rotenberger Wildlife Management Areas. These three areas are in Palm Beach, Broward and Miami-Dade counties. Georgia hunters can begin making waterfowl season plans now that the 2017-2018 migratory bird season hunting dates and regulations were approved by the Board of Natural Resources. Maryland Angler Catches Record White Catfish in Lower Potomac River  The Maryland Department of Natural Resources confirmed a St. Mary’s County man has set a new state fishing record for white catfish. The fish was recognized as a game fish a few years ago, but until now nobody had broken the seven-pound minimum weight to be eligible for state records. The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) encourages Missourians to discover nature this summer -- and one fun and exciting way is through frogging. Frogging season begins Tuesday, June 30, at sunset and ends Oct. 31. Frogging can be done with either a fishing permit or a small game permit. Red Snapper 2017 Season Extended in Federal Waters for Gulf States   Following a series of public meetings on the Texas coast to seek angler input, the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD), along with the states of FloridaAlabamaMississippi and Louisiana, and the U.S. Department of Commerce (USDOC), have reached an agreement that will allow private recreational anglers to catch red snapper in federal waters on weekends this summer. Illinois Black Carp Bounty for Commercial Fishers Only

The Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) is encouraging commercial fishers in the state to report and turn in any specimens of invasive black carp captured in their nets in the Illinois River, or in the Illinois waters of the Mississippi, Ohio and Wabash rivers.  Commercial fishers can earn a bounty of $100 for black carp.  The bounty is available only to commercial fishers, and is not available to individual recreational sport fishers, who are unlikely to catch black carp.
