Dove season is the traditional first hunting opportunity in Georgia, with hunters from the coast to the mountains traipsing to fields and waterholes in hopes of hitting a few of these fast and agile birds. Dove season opens statewide Sept 2nd. If you missed the application or drew to another dove field, you can still hunt Rum Creek on the third Saturday of the first dove season, which is an open (non-draw) hunt. Court Rules Against Louisiana Public Hunting on Catahoula Lake  A district court ruled late last month that Catahoula Lake is a river, not a lake, and therefore may not be managed for public use. There's no state in the union that shoots more ducks per acre than Louisiana, and at no place in Louisiana are the ducks thicker than Catahoula Lake. Minnesota Wild Rice Harvesting Season Opens in Late August  Wild rice harvesting season opens annually between Aug. 15 and Sept. 30 and wildlife managers say its shaping up to be an excellent season this year.
