New Mexico 2017-18 Electronic Duck Stamps Available

New Mexico duck and goose hunters will have a more convenient way to purchase federal duck stamps beginning Sept. 1, when the Department of Game and Fish will start selling the stamps under the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service’s E-Stamp program. Federal duck stamps, also known as Migratory Bird Hunting and Conservation Stamps, are required for all duck and goose hunters ages 16 and older. Hunters can purchase the stamp online, at license vendors, and by phone at (888) 248-6866, and will receive the physical stamp within 45 days by regular mail. New Mexico Offers Several Over-the-Counter (OTC) Hunting Opportunities

If you have access to private land and permision from the landowner, you can purchase your license from any license vendor. Although they are not truly OTC licenses, some elk and pronghorn permits can be obtained without having to draw. There is also a very unique opportunity to hunt Ibex with an over the counter permit. Six States have 2017 Over-the-Counter Elk Tags

You can hunt elk in 2017 without winning the lottery. Arizona, Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, Utah and Washington have many units with general season or Over-the Counter (OTC) tags that offer a good chance at getting an elk, especially if you get an any sex elk tag. Wyoming and Montana no longer offer OTC tags to non-residents, but chances are still good to hunt elk in those states. California, Nevada and New Mexico do not offer any OTC Elk tags, so all elk tags in these states are limited entry only. The Idaho winter was tough on upland birds, but hunters will get more pheasants on WMAs. Some bird populations were hit hard, but others fared well and should provide good hunting. Like other animals, heavy snowfall in across southern and central Idaho took its toll on upland game birds with many populations the same or down from recent years, but there are highlights. In southeastern New York, the early bear season runs from Sept. 9 to Sept. 24 in Wildlife Management Units (WMUs) 3A, 3C, 3H, 3J, 3K, 3M, 3P, 3R, 4P, and 4R.
