Iowa Winter Trout Stocking Begins Jan 9

The popular program is supported by the sales of the trout fee. Anglers need a valid fishing license and pay the trout fee to fish for or possess trout. Louisiana Deer Hunting in Atchafalaya Basin May be Closed Due to Flooding by Jan 8
by TBC Press on 01/05/16Louisiana rising flood waters in the Atchafalaya Basin could trigger an automatic deer hunting season closure in parts of Deer Area 9 as early as Friday (Jan. 8). The High Water Benchmark Closure, enacted by the Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries Commission in Title 76, will close deer hunting in an area of the Atchafalaya Basin in portions of Iberia, Iberville, St. Martin and St. Mary parishes when the flood gauge reaches 18 feet at Butte LaRose. That benchmark water level is expected to be reached either Friday or Saturday (Jan. 9). READ MORE

Montana Pacific Flyway Duck, Goose Seasons to Close Then Reopen

Montana’s portion of the Pacific Flyway is west of a line that includes Hill, Chouteau, Cascade, Meagher and Park counties. Nonresident North Dakota Any-Deer Bow Licenses - Deadline March 1

A lottery will be held if more applications are received than licenses available. Any remaining licenses after March 1 will be issued on a first-come, first-served basis. Vermont Bear Hunters Had a Successful and Safe Season
by TBC Press on 01/05/16The Vermont Fish & Wildlife Department reports that bear hunters in Vermont had a safe and successful hunting season in 2015. Preliminary numbers show that hunters took 669 black bears during the 83 days of the two-part early bear season’ and late bear season. There were also no hunting-related shooting incidents. Fish & Wildlife Department bear biologist Forrest Hammond says this is a higher harvest than the past 10-year average of 502 bears taken annually, but it is consistent with a statewide goal of stabilizing the bear population between 4,500 and 6,000 bears. Washington Brant Goose Season Limited to 3 Days in Skagit County

This years brant season in Skagit County will be limited to three days – January 9, 13, and 16 – based on criteria set when the season was adopted by the Washington Fish and Wildlife Commission in August. Arizona Confirms Respiratory Disease in Black Mountains Bighorn Sheep
by TBC Press on 01/04/16The Arizona Game and Fish Department has confirmed a disease event affecting a portion of the bighorn sheep population in the Black Mountains of northwest Arizona. After receiving reports in early December from hunters who observed bighorn sheep in Game Management Unit 15D exhibiting coughing or nasal discharge, the department conducted a spot survey of the northern portion of the unit on Dec. 9. Tissue samples from three ewes, each animal culled from a different herd, showed characteristics consistent with pneumonia. READ MORE

High Water in Florida Prompts Temporary Closure of Some Roads in The Apalachicola River WEA
by TBC Press on 01/04/16Due to recent rainfall, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) has temporarily closed several roads located within the Apalachicola River Wildlife and Environmental Area (ARWEA). The closure includes all of the Saul Creek Unit, Bloody Unit, and portions of the Quinn and Doyle Creek Tracts. Butcher Pen Landing, Gardner Landing, Bloody Bluff Landing and Van Horn Landing campgrounds on the Franklin County side of the ARWEA are also included in the closure. The road closure will remain in effect until further notice to ensure public safety and resource conservation. READ MORE
