South Dakota Offers Free Food Plot Brood Mix

The South Dakota Department of Game, Fish and Parks (GFP) is offering a new brood mix to help provide for wildlife in the spring and summer. Food plots are a great way to attract wildlife to your property and to assist wildlife such as deer and pheasants through the long winter months. Traditionally, corn and sorghum plots have filled this need. Wyoming Proposed Bill Would Allow Lion Trapping

   A Lander lawmaker is proposing a bill that would legalize trapping and snaring mountain lions. The bill sponsored by Republican Rep. Jim Allen would direct the Wyoming Game and Fish Commission to set rules and regulations specifying which types of traps and snares could be used for taking the large carnivores. Arizona Rule Change Affects Non-Residents Applying for Hunt Permit-Tags

The five-member Arizona Game and Fish Commission recently changed how and when hunt permit-tags may be issued to non-resident applicants through the Arizona Game and Fish Department’s random computer draw. The rule change was implemented to address hunts where the 10 percent non-resident cap is met in the bonus point pass of the draw. In these hunts, non-residents in lower bonus point categories have no chance of drawing a hunt permit-tag.READ MORE  

Delaware Wetland Conference Feb 3-4

   DNREC is pleased to host the 2016 Delaware Wetland Conference which focuses on advancing wetland science and conservation through its theme “Educate, Connect, Protect.” The wetlands conference – one of the largest gatherings of wetlands professionals on the Atlantic Coast – takes place Feb. 3 and 4 at the Chase Center on the Riverfront in Wilmington, with an agenda this year expanded to two full days of presenting and sharing wetlands expertise. Hawaii Closes Muliwi Trail & Waimanu Valley Campground Due to Dengue Health Concerns

The Department of Land and Natural Resources has closed the Muliwai hiking trail on the far cliff side of Waipio Valley and its Waimanu Valley campground,  following the closure of Waipio valley access road on Wednesday to residents only by Hawaii County officials following confirmation of two cases of dengue in Waipio residents. 

Muliwai trail and Waimanu Valley can only be accessed via Waipio valley. Campers with existing permits will be contacted by DLNR’s Division of Forestry and Wildlife. No new permits will be issued until further notice.  READ MORE

Idaho Sets Big Game Scoring Day Feb 18 In Idaho Falls

A Big Game scoring day has been scheduled for Thursday, February 18 at the Idaho Department of Fish and Game office in Idaho Falls. Measuring will be done according to Boone and Crockett standards. Minnesota Women Can Learn Outdoor Skills at Winter BOW Workshop in Feb

   Women can discover the enjoyment of snowshoeing, cross country skiing, birding, wild ricing, dark-house fishing and hiking at a winter workshop offered by the Becoming an Outdoors Woman program of the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources. The workshop is Friday, Feb. 19, through Sunday, Feb. 21, at the Deep Portage Environmental Learning Center near Hackensack for ages 14 and older. Minnesota Application Deadline for Novice Turkey Mentored Hunts is Feb 15

Under the guidance of National Wild Turkey Federation (NWTF) volunteers. This year, the Minnesota mentored hunts take place Saturday, April 16, and Sunday, April 17. The deadline to apply for the hunts is Monday, Feb. 15, and applications are available online at the departments website. The hunts for youth, adults and families are open to those who have purchased no more than one turkey license in a previous year and have not harvested a turkey. Missouri Trout Harvest Begins Feb 1

The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) says trout may be harvested from Rotary Lake in Jackson and Giessing Lake in Farmington beginning Feb. 1.  According to Mike Reed, a MDC fisheries management biologist, fishing has been variable this winter due to weather extremes.

Missouri Sets New Truman Lake Spotted Bass Regulation

Anglers at Truman Lake will have increased chances to keep spotted bass as part of their creel limit. Beginning March 1, a new regulation will reduce the length limit on spotted bass caught at Truman Lake from 15 inches to 12 inches. Bass population studies by Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) biologists have shown that spotted bass grow slower than largemouth bass, and many adult spotted bass never reach 15 inches, said Mike Bayless, MDC fisheries management biologist.  READ MORE

Oregon Asking Halibut Anglers to Help Set Spring Season Dates for Central Coast

ODFW wants halibut anglers to weigh in on open dates for the 2016 spring all-depth sport halibut fishery in the Central Coast subarea. And like last year, there are three ways to give feedback—attend a public meeting, participate via webinar, or take an online survey.

The Central Oregon Coast Subarea extends from Cape Falcon to Humbug Mt., and includes most Oregon ports except those in the Astoria area, Gold Beach, and Brookings. The seasons for the Columbia River and Southern Oregon Subareas have already been established for this year. “The sport halibut fishery is popular, so we want to ensure we hear from as many anglers as possible,” said Lynn Mattes, halibut project leader for ODFW. Rhode Island Deer Hunting on Block Island Open Through Feb 12

The Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management (DEM) announced today deer hunting season at Black Rock/Rodman Hollow on Block Island is now open; the season runs through February 12. Hunting on the Black Rock property is allowed on weekdays (Tuesday through Friday), beginning one half-hour before sunrise to one half-hour after sunset.
