Wisconsin Leftover Spring Turkey Permits on Sale Starting March 21 With Zone 1

Wisconsin leftover spring turkey permits go on sale starting March 21 with Zone 1. The 109,367 leftover permits for the 2016 spring turkey hunting season will be first issued for sale by zone, one zone per day. Each zone will have a designated sales date and will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. Extra turkey tags can be purchased at a rate of one per day until the zone and time period sells out or the season closes.  After zone-only sales days, all remaining turkey tags will be made available for purchase Saturday, March 26.  Scheduled sales dates for zones have leftover permits, and are as follows:.. READ MORE

Idaho 2016 Spring Black Bear Application Deadline Feb 15

Two weeks remain in the application period for Idaho spring black bear which opened January 15 and continues through February 15. Any leftover controlled hunt tags for black bear controlled hunts go on sale April 1. Hunters must have a 2016 Idaho hunting license to apply. Maryland 2016 Midwinter Waterfowl Survey Results

Each winter, aerial survey teams of pilots and biologists from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the Maryland Department of Natural Resources make visual estimates of the ducks, geese and swans along the Chesapeake Bay shoreline and Atlantic coast. This year, the teams counted approximately 663,000 waterfowl, lower than the 855,500 birds observed during 2015 and less than the five year average of 759,460. READ MORE

NC Anglers Should Take Precautions after Discovery of Nuisance Algae

   The N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission advises trout anglers fishing in western North Carolina waters to be especially diligent when cleaning their fishing equipment after didymo, a nuisance algae, was found in the Tuckasegee River in Jackson County. Texas Annual Crab Trap Removal Feb 19-28

For more than a decade, countless volunteers have spent 10 days each February searching Texas bays for abandoned crab traps left to foul shrimpers’ nets, snag anglers’ lines and create unsightly views. Utah Deer Herds Doing Well - Application Deadline March 3

The number of buck deer in Utah has increased again this year. If you'd like to hunt those bucks this fall, you need to submit your application no later than 11 p.m. on March 3. You can apply for a hunting permit online. Road Closures in Southern Wyoming Due to Winter Storm

Much of Interstate 80 across southern Wyoming is closed as a major winter storm brings heavy snowfall across the West. The Wyoming Department of Transportation has closed I-80 from Rock Springs as far east as Laramie. Federal, State Rules Differ for California Junior Hunters

California junior hunters have enjoyed a new benefit that took effect at the beginning of the 2015-16 hunting season. AB 1709, signed by Governor Edmund G. Brown in 2014, amended Fish and Game Code, section 3031, by extending the eligibility period for a junior hunting license by two years. Under the recent change in law, any person who is under 18 years of age on July 1 of the license year qualifies for a junior hunting license, regardless of whether that person applies before or after July 1 of that year. The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) is providing notice to deer hunters that deer hunting season in parts of Deer Area 9 in the Atchafalaya Basin reopened Saturday (Jan. 30) when the Atchafalaya River gauge at Butte La Rose falls below 18 feet. Maryland Second Youth Waterfowl Hunt Day Feb 6

Young Maryland hunters can hone their skills with the help of an experienced adult during the Youth Waterfowl Hunt Day set for Feb. 6. On this date, adults may take youth, 15 years of age or younger, to public and private land to experience the joy of hunting ducks, geese, mergansers and coots. All hunters must have completed a hunter education course (except those exempted) and possess a valid Maryland hunting license. North Dakota Anglers Register Now to Darkhouse Spearfish

All individuals, regardless of age, who participate in darkhouse spearfishing are reminded to register with the North Dakota Game and Fish Department prior to participating. Free registration is available at the department’s website, gf.nd.gov, or through any Game and Fish Department office. North Dakota’s darkhouse spearfishing season closes March 15.
