Missouri NASP State Archery Tournament March 18-19

About 1,400 student archers from schools around the state will compete at the Missouri National Archery in Schools Program (MoNASP) eighth annual state tournament on March 18-19 at Tan-Tar-A Resort in Osage Beach. The public is welcome to attend to support the participants.

MoNASP is coordinated through the Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) and the Conservation Federation of Missouri (CFM) in partnership with more than 500 participating schools and numerous supporting organizations throughout the state. New Hampshire Approves Bobcat Season Proposal

New Hampshire Approves Bobcat Season Proposal   The New Hampshire Fish and Game Commission today voted 5 to 4 to move forward on a proposal to establish a bobcat hunting and trapping season in New Hampshire. The Fish and Game Commission is proposing to issue a total of 50 bobcat permits through a lottery process. The draft season would be similar to New Hampshire’s fisher season, with December trapping and January hunting. The proposal would take effect in December of 2016... READ MORE

New Mexico Outdoor Adventures Hunting & Fishing Show in Albuquerque Feb 19-21

The annual New Mexico Outdoors Adventures Hunting and Fishing Show is back at the state fairgrounds in Albuquerque this weekend. There’ll be plenty to see and do at this year’s event hosted by the New Mexico Department of Game and Fish, including a return engagement of the exciting fishing simulator. Florida Barracuda, Anemone Workshops Feb 22-25

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) is hosting several south Florida workshops in February to gather public input on barracuda and anemones. These workshops are free and open to anyone interested in participating. The barracuda workshops will focus on recent management changes that went into effect Nov. 1, 2015, which included implementing a two-fish per person and six-fish per vessel daily recreational and commercial bag limit in state waters off Collier, Monroe, Miami-Dade, Broward, Palm Beach, and Martin counties. The goal of the workshops is to determine if there is a need for any additional management changes for barracuda, including, but not limited to, a possible size limit.

Minnesota Moose Population Improves But Remains Low   Minnesota’s moose population remains low despite a slowing population decline during the past five years, the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources said. Results from the 2016 aerial moose survey indicate that the population change from an estimated 3,450 in 2015 to 4,020 in 2016 is not statistically significant. Northeastern Minnesota’s current moose population could be as high as 5,180 or as low as 3,230. Moose are not recovering in northeastern Minnesota, said Glenn DelGiudice, moose project leader for the DNR. Ohio Special Youth Turkey Hunts at Paint Creek State Park   Young turkey hunters will be able to take advantage of a permit only Youth Turkey Hunt at Paint Creek State Park during the 2016 spring turkey season according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR). Hunters 17 years of age and younger, accompanied by the non-hunting adult that will accompany them on the day of the hunt, are eligible to apply for a drawing to hunt within four specified zones April 16, 23, 30 and May 7 and 14, 2016. North Carolina Wildlife Regulations Set for 2016-17 Seasons

The N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission yesterday voted on proposed rule changes to the state’s game land, wildlife management and inland fishing regulations. Of the 37 proposed rule changes, 34 were approved as taken to public hearings; one game land regulation was amended and approved; one wildlife management regulation was removed from consideration and one wildlife management regulation was disapproved. Pennsylvania 2015 Bear Harvest Ranked 3rd All-Time High    It was a large harvest, and a heavy one. Pennsylvania hunters harvested a total of 3,748 bears in 2015, the third-highest tally in state history, the Pennsylvania Game Commission recently reported.  And a whopping 68 of those bears topped the 500-pound mark. South Carolina Heritage Preserves Temporarily Closed Due to Flooding

Three heritage preserves in Horry and Marion counties have been partially closed due to heavy rains, according to the S.C. Department of Natural Resources. Due to local rivers reaching flood stage again after heavy rains, road closures have been issued in parts of Lewis Ocean Bay Heritage Preserve and Waccamaw River Heritage Preserve in Horry County and Little Pee Dee Heritage Preserve in Horry and Marion counties. Virginia Riparian Stationary Waterfowl Blinds on Sale for 2016-2017 Season

Riparian Landowners are first, with nonriparian blinds going on sale later depending on whether they had a blind last year or not. Riparian landowners or their lessees or permittees licensing a stationary blind that was not licensed the previous year by the riparian owner, lessee, or permittee may purchase a stationary blind license from February 1 through June 15. A stake or a stationary blind shall be erected on the site, and a license plate supplied with the license for that season shall be affixed thereto, by June 30. Washington Salmon Season Closes Feb 22 in Marine Area 6

Before the salmon fishing season started, WDFW and tribal co-managers agreed to a limited number (2,586) of chinook encounters - retaining or releasing fish - anglers are allowed in Marine Area 6. Preliminary estimates indicate that anglers have retained or released 1,812 chinook and are expected to reach the limit for chinook encounters by Feb 22.
