Delaware Turkey Hunting Season Opens April 9

Delaware’s spring turkey hunting season opens Saturday, April 9, and runs through Saturday, May 7, DNREC’s Division of Fish & Wildlife announced today. Hunting hours are a half-hour before sunrise until 1 p.m., Monday through Saturday. Hunters are reminded that only bearded birds may be taken, and that all harvested birds must be checked at an authorized turkey check station by 2:30 p.m. on the day of the hunt. Take Advantage of Kentucky Public Hunting Areas This Spring Turkey Season

Like deer and elk, the restoration of wild turkeys in Kentucky is a remarkable success story. The statewide flock now numbers around 220,000 turkeys and telecheck harvest records show spring turkey hunters have taken an average of 31,719 birds over the past five years. The statewide harvest was up slightly last year over the previous spring as hunters topped 30,000 birds for the fifth time in the past six years.

This year, the general spring turkey season opens statewide on April 16 and closes May 8, but hunters age 15 and younger are first up. The special youth-only season runs the weekend of April 2-3. While gobblers harvested on private land make up the majority of the spring harvest each year, public hunting areas are not to be overlooked... READ MORE

Massachusetts Young Adult Turkey Hunt April 23

Turkey close up   The Massachusetts Young Adult Turkey Hunting Program is a partnership program between MassWildlife, participating Sportsmen’s clubs, and the Massachusetts State Chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation. The program is designed to provide hunters ages 12-17 an opportunity to:

Participate in a field workshop that provides specialized training in turkey hunting and safety, including firearms instruction and practice

Vermont Trout Season Opens April 9

Vermont’s traditional trout fishing season is set to open on Saturday, April 9, and officials from Vermont Fish & Wildlife say the mild winter could be a boon for early season trout action across the state. Some of the biggest trout caught in Vermont rivers each year are taken during the spring season,” said Palmer. “And, given the current conditions, you may see some really nice trout taken starting on April 9. Vermont Permit Numbers Set for 2016 Moose Hunt

A total of 135 regular firearms moose season permits and 25 archery moose season permits would be issued for Vermont’s 2016 October moose hunt under a proposed regulation approved by the Vermont Fish and Wildlife Board. The board voted on a proposal by the Vermont Fish & Wildlife Department to allocate permits in 16 of the state’s 21 Wildlife Management Units (WMUs). The proposed permit numbers must be voted on at one more board meeting in April. The number of permits would be reduced from 2015 in ten WMUs, and permits would be for bulls-only in all WMUs except B, C and E1 units..READ MORE

Washington to Consider 2016-17 Deer Hunting Regulation Changes

The Washington Fish and Wildlife Commission is scheduled to take action on proposed changes to state hunting rules for deer, elk, bear, cougar and other game species during a public meeting April 8-9 in Olympia. Wisconsin Panfish Regulations Changes Begin on 93 Lakes April 1

In an effort to improve panfish size on 93 Wisconsin lakes with the potential for bigger fish, new regulations take effect on April 1. The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources is putting the experimental regulations in place following a process that involved more than 3,500 survey responses, more than 30 public meetings.

Four Florida Counties Open April 1 to Gag Grouper Recreational Harvest

State waters off the coast of Franklin, Wakulla, Jefferson and Taylor counties will open to recreational harvest of gag grouper starting April 1. This regional season will remain open through June 30, with the first day of the closure being July 1. The season also includes all waters of Apalachicola Bay and Indian Pass, including those in Gulf County, and all waters of the Steinhatchee River, including those in Dixie County.

As a reminder, the minimum size limit for gag and black grouper caught in Gulf of Mexico state and federal waters is expected to change from 22 inches to 24 inches total length later this spring... READ MORE
