Alaska Asks Interior Secretary Jewell to Intervene in Caribou Hunting Closure Decision

The State of Alaska has appealed to Secretary of the Interior Sally Jewell with a request that the Department of Interior immediately review and address a recent decision by the Federal Subsistence Board to close caribou hunting on federal public lands in Game Management Unit 23 to all but federally qualified users. The State has also asked that the Interior Department review administrative procedures that implement and retain federal closures in cases where no biological concern exists and to resolve the lack of administrative process available for reconsidering Wildlife Special Actions decisions when new information is provided... READ MORE

Arizona to Intervene in Defense Suit of Motorized Big Game Retrieval on Kaibab National Forest

The State of Arizona and Office of the Arizona Attorney Generaly filed a motion to intervene in a lawsuit brought by several environmental groups challenging the U. S. Arkansas Passes Special Regulations to Slow CWD

Arkansas Commissioners voted unanimously during a special meeting to approve a Chronic Wasting Disease Management Zone made up of Boone, Carroll, Johnson, Logan, Madison, Marion, Newton, Pope, Searcy and Yell counties. CWD has been found in five of these counties since first being discovered in Arkansas in late February. The AGFC has circulated proposals to slow the spread of the disease for the last month. Florida swept the Take Me Fishing™ 2016 “Top 100 Family Friendly Places to Boat and Fish in the U.S.” list, hosting the top four locations with nine locations on the list in total—more than any other state. Angler Reels in 835-Pound Blue Marlin at Emerald Coast Blue Marlin Classic in Florida

Missouri Approves Hog-Hunting Ban on MDC Lands

At its meeting on June 24, the Missouri Conservation Commission approved changes to the Wildlife Code of Missouri that would prohibit the hunting of feral hogs on conservation areas and other lands owned, leased, or managed by the Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC). Vermont Felt-Soled Wader Ban is Repealed

Many Vermont anglers will be happy to learn that a five-year ban on the use of felt-soled waders in Vermont has been repealed, effective July 1, 2016. Using felt-soled waders and boots was prohibited in 2011 out of concern about the spread of didymo, an algae also known as “rock snot,” which was appearing as nuisance blooms in trout rivers throughout North America, including some rivers here in Vermont. The porous felt on boot bottoms helps prevent slipping on rocks, but it was considered a potential means of transporting the algae spores from one body of water to another... READ MORE

Arkansas Elk Permit Drawing at Buffalo River Elk Festival June 24-25

The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission will draw 29 permits for the opportunity to hunt elk on public land this Saturday at the 19th Annual Buffalo River Elk Festival. In addition to 26 permits drawn from applications received in May, three special permits will be pulled from a separate stack of applications only available on site at the festival. Registration for these permits will be available at the Newton County Senior Center from noon until 5 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. Saturday. New Georgia State Record Shadow Bass Caught on Flint River

GA-Kristen Brown & Shadow Bass State Record  Here is hoping that angler Kristen Brown is twice as excited over her catch of June 1, 2016. She holds the new state record shadow bass and it is the first time that shadow bass are recognized as eligible for state record status, according to the Georgia Department of Natural Resources’ Wildlife Resources Division. Brown, of Baconton, hooked this new state record shadow bass on the Flint River on June 1, 2016 using a plastic worm.
