Hunters who have not yet filled their 2016 Wyoming elk license still have an opportunity to hunt elk on the National Elk Refuge (Hunt Area 77). The computerized drawing for a refuge hunt permit is available to hunters with any unused 2016 Wyoming elk license, except archery only (type 9) licenses. The early Alaska winter has been quite benign. Paxson and Delta Junction have seen a few days below zero, but the lower temperatures have only held a few days. Ice on Delta-area ponds is 8 or 10 inches. Lake ice in Delta is generally safe earlier than ice in many places, especially on lakes stocked by the Alaska Department of Fish and Game. Pennsylvania Bowhunter Shoots 740-Pound Black Bear at 7 Yards

A hunter in Pennsylvania shot a black bear this fall that could be a new state record. The bear was shot November 18, by Dustin Learn. He apparently spotted the bear while it was sleeping one morning and then put on the stalk. He crept up to the bruin at a snails pace, thinking he might be dealing with a 250-pound bear. AGFC Finds 28 New Cases of CWD in North Arkansas
