Northwest Florida Recreational & Commercial Blue Crab Fishery Re-Opened

Recreational and commercial blue crab traps may be placed back in state waters (shore to 9 nautical miles) from the Florida/Alabama state line through the Franklin/Wakulla county line starting Wednesday, Jan. 11. Illinois pheasant hunting  The Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) today announced that the controlled pheasant hunting season has been extended at four IDNR sites, and hunters can make reservations now for additional hunting opportunities this month. Wild turkey hunters have through Friday, Jan. 27, to apply for early season spring hunting permits. The spring season lasts from Wednesday, April 12, to Wednesday, May 31, and has six time periods. Only firearms hunters age 18 and older who want to hunt during the first two time periods (A or B) need to apply by Jan. 27 for a spring turkey permit. Minnesota Places 5-County Feeding Ban After 2 More Cases of CWD Found

Two more deer suspected of being infected with chronic wasting disease have been found near Preston.  The DNR received preliminary results of the positive tests late on Jan 6. Final results confirming the two suspected cases are expected later this week. The two adult female deer were killed within a mile of the first two positive deer. MDC Reports Three New Cases of CWD from Mandatory Sampling

West Virginia Hunters Harvest 112,384 Deer in 2016

Preliminary counts indicate West Virginia hunters harvested 112,384 white-tailed deer during the recently completed bucks firearms, antlerless, muzzleloader, archery, crossbow, and youth/Class Q/Class XS deer seasons, according to Paul Johansen, chief of the Division of Natural Resources (DNR) Wildlife Resources Section. This year’s total harvest was 19 percent below the 2015 deer harvest of 138,493 and 15 percent below the five-year average of 132,466. West Virginia Hunters Harvest Over 3000 Black Bears in 2016

West Virginia hunters harvested 3,012 black bears during the combined 2016 archery, crossbow and firearms seasons, according to Colin Carpenter, Black Bear Project leader for the West Virginia Division of Natural Resources. The preliminary black bear harvest data for the combined 2016 seasons were 6 percent lower than the record set in 2015. California abalone fishing  Regulations for California’s popular red abalone sport fishery have changed in 2017. Due to concerns about the declining population, the season will be shortened and the take limit reduced.
