Hawaii 2017 Big Island Spring Bearded Turkey Season Opens March 1

The Department of Land and Natural Resources announces the opening of the 2017 Spring Bearded Turkey Hunting Season on Wednesday, March 1, 2017. The spring season will run for 46 consecutive days through Saturday, April 15, 2017 (with the exception of Unit E – Kipuka Ainahou that will run for 31 days). Hawaii 2017 Archery Season Opens March 4

The Department of Land and Natural Resources announces the opening of archery hunting in Pu‘uanahulu game management area (GMA) beginning Saturday, March 4, 2017, and continuing on weekends and State Holidays through Sunday, June 25, 2017. Mississippi Tagged Fish Still Available in Lake Dockery

Mississippi tagged fish  The Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks (MDWFP) tagged 100 fish at Lake Dockery last October.  Largemouth bass, bluegill, redear sunfish, and channel catfish were marked with a yellow tag on their back behind the dorsal fin.  Anglers are encouraged to fish Lake Dockery and catch a tagged fish.  To date, only two anglers have brought in a tag to claim their reward. Montana Shed Hunters Urged to Hold Off Until Spring

Winter can be a tough time and especially stressful for elk, with deep snow and limited food options. That’s why Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks is asking shed hunters and other recreationists to give elk their space until the snow melts and the animals are less stressed. Shed hunting has become increasingly popular in recent years and more competitive. In some cases, that has led individuals to try to get a head start by running elk through trees to break off antlers or to trespass on Montana’s Wildlife Management Areas where elk find sanctuary this time of year (most do not open until noon on May 15). It’s time to get turkey tags! In order to legally hunt turkeys, all South Carolina hunters, including hunters under the age of 16, must possess a set of turkey tags. Tags are available over the counter at South Carolina Department of Natural Resources (SCDNR) offices located in Charleston, Clemson, Columbia ( downtown and State Farmer’s Market), Florence, and York. California Anglers Can Retain Canary Rockfish in 2017

California Canary rockfish  Starting in 2017, California anglers will be allowed to retain canary rockfish for the first time in more than a decade. Canary rockfish was declared overfished in 2000, but the population rebuilt to healthy levels quicker than anticipated based on a combination of conservation efforts and restrictive management. Kansas Light Goose Conservation Order, is open Feb. 13-April 30, 2017. In an effort to reduce the population of snow and Ross’ geese, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) authorized this special hunting season for light geese. New Hampshire to Reduce Moose Hunt Permits for the 2017 Season

Utah Officers Enforcing Shed Antler Closure

Utah shed antler hunting  On Feb. 2, Utah Division of Wildlife Resources Director Greg Sheehan signed an emergency order. The order supersedes a Jan. 31 order. The Jan. 31 order closed shed antler gathering only in 11 counties. The latest shed antler closure will protect deer, elk and moose across Utah.
