A new law passed by the North Dakota Legislature will result in the State Game and Fish Department to propose Oct. 7 as opening day of the 2017 pheasant hunting season, one week earlier than what the department earlier announced. Evidence of Oklahoma’s bumper crop of big bucks was in no short supply at the Wildlife Department’s first March Rack Madness event March 6. Attendees presented more than two dozen deer antler sets (and one pronghorn) for certified measurers to examine and render an official number. Recreational sturgeon seasons in Bonneville and The Dalles pools will close effective Saturday, March 25, under rules announced by fishery managers from Oregon and Washington. The states decided to close these two sturgeon sport fisheries based on recently improving catch rates. Catch projections indicate the recreational sturgeon quota in The Dalles Pool will be met as of Friday March 24. Virginia Confirms Nine New CWD Positives in Frederick County

Seven were deer harvested by hunters and two were killed by vehicles. All of the new cases were detected in the same general areas as previous cases. The 105,464 leftover permits for the Wisconsin 2017 spring turkey hunting season will be sold on a first-come, first-served basis. Florida Panther Population Growing - Increased Interaction Possible

The Florida panther is an example of a conservation success story. However, this success has resulted in challenges. Over the past few decades, the panther population has grown significantly. There were only 20 to 30 adult panthers in the 1970s. Today, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) estimates the population at 120 to 230 animals.
