Iowa 2022 Walleye Season Opens May 7 on the Great Lakes

Iowa's 146th walleye fishing season officially opens May 7 at Spirit Lake, East and West Okoboji lakes. Walleye populations on the Iowa Great Lakes are in great shape, said Mike Hawkins, fisheries biologist for the Iowa DNR. MAINE UPDATES FOR THE 2022 ATV SEASON

ATV season is just around the corner! Maine’s ATV trails do not open until May 15 at the earliest, with many clubs not opening trails until early June. Minnesota 2022 Upper Red Lake Walleye Regulations when Season Opens May 14

Anglers fishing during the 2022 open-water season that starts May 14 on Upper Red Lake in northern Minnesota will have a four-walleye possession limit, with only one walleye longer than 20 inches allowed, according to the Minnesota DNR. Although angler activity was once again high last winter, harvest was modest at 134,000 pounds of walleye. MDC Accepting Applications for 2022 Elk-Bear-Hunting Permits

The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) encourages Missouri hunters to apply for elk-hunting and bear-hunting permits in May. MDC will offer five permits to hunt bull elk in Missouri this fall with at least one permit allocated for qualifying area landowners and the remaining permits for the general public. ODFW Emergency Reductions to Deer Tags for some Heppner, Interstate, Starkey Hunts

May 15 is the deadline to apply for 2022 fall controlled hunts.
Tag numbers for four controlled deer hunts are being reduced for the 2022 hunting season from what appears in the Oregon Big Game Regulations. The hunts impacted are: Heppner Unit #1 (hunt #148) –2,610 tags will be available (down from 2,860) - Starkey Experimental Forest(#152B) – Zero tags available in 2022 (down from 5) - Interstate Unit (#175) –850 tags available (down from 1,308) and Interstate Unit Bow (#175R) – 270 tags available (down from 413). SCDNR Accepting Applications for the 2022 Public Alligator Lottery

The S.C. Department of Natural Resources (SCDNR) is accepting applications for the public alligator lottery through June 15th at 5:00 pm. A $10 nonrefundable application fee is required to apply. A randomized computer drawing based on a preference point system will determine the selection of hunters. The California CDFW announced that the 2022 recreational Pacific halibut fishery will open Sunday, May 1 and remain open until November 15, or until the quota is reached, whichever is earlier. The 2022 Pacific halibut quota for the California sport fishery is 38,740 pounds – approximately the same as the 2021 quota. California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) Director Charlton H. Bonham has assessed entanglement risk under the Risk Assessment Mitigation Program (RAMP) and in accordance with regulations adopted by the California Fish and Game Commission for the recreational crab fishery. West Virginia Angler Breaks Blue Catfish Weight Record West Virginia’s navigable rivers continue to produce hefty catfish, including one that recently broke the state record for weight. On April 8, Cody Carver of Dry Branch, WV, caught and released a blue catfish that broke the state record for weight while fishing from a boat in the Marmet Pool of the Kanawha River. West Virginia’s spring gobbler season opens on April 18 and continues for five weeks to May 22, according to the West Virginia Division of Natural Resources (WVDNR). Dog owners in northern California are reminded to take precautions to protect their pets from Salmon Poisoning Disease. Salmon Poisoning Disease is a potentially fatal condition seen only in dogs after they eat certain types of raw or cold smoked fish like trout and salmon that are infected with a bacteria-like organism, Neorickettsia helminthoeca, which is transmitted by the parasitic flatworm (or “fluke”) Nanophyetes salmincola.
