North Dakota Sharp-tailed Grouse, Hungarian Partridge Counts Down  North Dakota hunters will find fewer sharp-tailed grouse and Hungarian partridge in the field this fall than last year. R.J. Gross, upland game management biologist for the North Dakota Game and Fish Department, said late July and August roadside counts show sharptails observed per 100 miles are down 29 percent from 2016, while partridge are down 62 percent. The Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) will offer special archery deer hunts at seven locations, which border three of Ohio’s state scenic rivers, through local lottery drawings. The hunts will offer sportsmen a unique opportunity to explore seldom visited sites, while lessening the impact of deer browsing on native plant populations. The South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks Commission agreed with a Department recommendation to make no changes to the 2017-18 mountain lion hunting season from the 2016-17 season during their September meeting in Sioux Falls.
