Florida Zone C 2017-18 General Gun Deer Season Opens Nov 4  On Saturday, Nov. 4, Florida’s Zone C general gun deer season begins. Zone C is Florida’s largest hunting zone, encompassing the central and northern part of the state. The general gun deer season runs Nov. 4 – Jan. 21, giving private land hunters the chance to carve out time from their busy schedules to go afield. Georgia Re-Opens Ocmulgee Public Fishing Area

Anticipating up to 20,000 users each year, the Georgia Department of Natural Resources’ Wildlife Resources Division (WRD) re-opened the Ocmulgee Public Fishing Area Oct 27, giving boaters and anglers great access to a celebrated fishing location. The Maine 2017-18 regular firearm season for deer opens on Saturday, October 28 for residents, and Monday, October 30 for nonresidents. New York Remaining 2017 Deer Management Permits Available for Hunters

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) today announced that remaining Deer Management Permits (DMPs) in several Wildlife Management Units (WMUs) will be available to hunters beginning Nov. 1. Deer Management Permits allow hunters to harvest antlerless deer and are issued for specific WMUs to control deer populations. In some WMUs, all applicants received permits during the initial application process and the DMP target has not been reached.  California Waterfowl Hunting at Eden Landing Ecological Reserve in Alameda County Starting Nov 18 The California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) is offering waterfowl hunting opportunities at the Eden Landing Ecological Reserve (ELER) in Hayward during the 2017-18 season. The reserve includes former commercial salt ponds now managed by CDFW as low-salinity water bird habitat and areas restored to full tidal action. The California 2017 general pheasant season will open Saturday, Nov. 11 and extend through Sunday, Dec. 24. Kansas Bison Auction Nov 15 at Maxwell Wildlife Refuge  The Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks and Tourism (KDWPT) will conduct a public auction to sell surplus bison at the Maxwell Wildlife Refuge on Wednesday, Nov. 15, 2017, beginning at 11 a.m. The auction is open to the public, and lunch and concessions will be available. Those interested in bidding are encouraged to arrive early to receive a bidder number. The Maxwell Wildlife Refuge, 6 miles north of Canton in McPherson County, is managed to preserve the area’s prairie heritage and herds of bison and elk are maintained, both native to Kansas grasslands. The 2017-2018 Kansas trout season runs Nov. 1, 2017 – April 15, 2018.  KDWPT Fisheries Division staff will provide trout anglers with more fish, more often this season. In years past, KDWPT-managed trout waters would receive four stockings of fish over the course of the trout season. This year, KDWPT-managed trout waters will receive two extra stockings, reducing the amount of time between each stocking. Oregon Hunters Asked Not to Take Collard Cougars

ODFW will begin collaring of cougars this month for a new study and will continue until 10 adults are collared or April 1, 2019. The research effort is in the Alsea Wildlife Management Unit, which includes parts of Lincoln and Benton counties. Once a cougar is collared the GPS unit will collect location data for 17 months.  It is legal to harvest a collared cougar but ODFW prefers that hunters not shoot a cougar with a collar if possible.  Hunters who do will need to...READ MORE
