Preliminary Count Shows Vermont Hunters Harvest 40 Moose in the 2017 Season  The Vermont Fish &Wildlife Department says a preliminary count reveals hunters harvested 40 moose in this year’s regulated hunting seasons. “A preliminary count on October 31 showed that hunters reported 8 moose being taken by 18 hunters in the October 1-7 archery season and 32 moose taken by 70 hunters in the October 21-26 regular season,” said Cedric Alexander, Vermont’s moose project leader. Wisconsin Could Axe Minimum Hunting Age Under New Bill  Anglers fishing Upper Red Lake in northwestern Minnesota this winter will be able to keep four walleye of which only one may be longer than 17 inches, the Department of Natural Resources said.  This same regulation has been in effect since the walleye fishing opener in May, but this will be the first winter season with the combination of a four fish bag limit and one over 17 inches allowed. The North Dakota Game and Fish Department’s fall mule deer survey indicated fawn production in 2017 was lower than in 2016. Biologists counted 2,548 (3,003 in 2016) mule deer in the aerial survey in October. The buck-to-doe ratio of 0.32 (0.48 in 2016) was lower than the long-term average of 0.43 bucks per doe, while the fawn-to-doe ratio of 0.76 (0.90 in 2016) was down from the long-term average of 0.91 fawns per doe. The Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management (DEM) muzzleloader deer hunting season on state and private lands in Zones 1 & 2 opened on Saturday, November 4. Non-Resident Idaho Elk Tags Sold Out for 2017 - Deer Selling Fast  Idaho Fish and Game sold out its nonresident regular deer and nonresident elk tags for the first time in nearly a decade, and nonresident hunters wanting whitetail tags better act.  There is no limit on over-the-counter deer and elk tags for residents.
