Kansas Greater Prairie Chicken Season Opens Nov 19

There is an early greater prairie chicken hunting season in Kansas, Sept.15-Oct. 15, which allows hunters the opportunity to hunt the birds behind pointing dogs. During the regular Nov. 19, 2016-Jan. 31, 2017 season, the traditional hunting method involves pass shooting near harvested grain fields. When freezes kill insects, greater prairie chickens commonly fly from grass to stubble fields to feed just after sunrise and just before sunset.
