Iowa’s sunflower and wheat fields will be popular places on Sept 1-Nov. 29, when thousands of hunters slip into the standing flowers and field edges in the early morning darkness for the opening day of 2020 dove hunting season. The Iowa DNR includes a list of wildlife areas on the departments website where dove plots were planted and identifies the access point nearest the plot. Applications for Firearm & Muzzleloader Permits Due Sept 10


The city of Grand Rapids in Minnesota will hold its eighth special deer hunt this fall in an attempt to maintain lower deer numbers within the city limits. The hunt is open to archery, firearms and muzzleloader hunters during the regular season dates for those hunts. Muzzleloader and firearms hunters will have to apply for their special hunt permit through the ELS by Thursday, Sept. 10. Special hunt numbers are 931 for firearms, and 946 for muzzleloader. Minnesota 2020 Camp Ripley Archery Deer Hunt Permits Available Aug 28

Hunters can purchase permits for the Minnesota archery deer hunts at Camp Ripley near Little Falls starting at noon on Friday, Aug. 28. Permits will remain on sale as long as they are available, or until Friday, Oct. 2. This year, the Minnesota DNR will not hold a preference lottery for Camp Ripley archery permits. The first New Jersey managed waterfowl hunt, originally scheduled to be implemented this fall on the Tuckahoe Wildlife Management Area, has been canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic. This year the Oregon bottomfish fishery opens to all depths on September 1. The all-depth halibut anglers may retain bottomfish on the same trip. Colorado Issues Emergency Public Fish Salvage at Jumbo (Julesburg) Reservoir

Colorado Parks and Wildlife announced an emergency public fish salvage at Jumbo (Julesburg) Reservoir effective Monday, Aug. 24. Due to high irrigation demand created by severe drought, the water level in Jumbo Reservoir is expected to decline to a point that will likely result in a loss of the entire fishery resource. Water levels are expected to be below the boat ramp within about a week, eliminating access to trailer-launched boats. Idaho Approves Modified 2020 Steelhead Bag Limits

The Idaho Fish and Game Commission approved modifications to the steelhead season in the Salmon, Little Salmon and Snake Rivers for the fall 2020 season, reducing the bag and possession limits to 2 and 6 fish, respectively. Arkansas’s early Canada goose season runs from Sept. 1-30 each year, and it has a small but devoted group of hunters who enjoy the opportunity.
