LDWF Closes Maurepas Swamp WMA Deer Season

Deer season in the Maurepas Swamp Wildlife Management Area (WMA), scheduled to open Thursday (Oct. 1), will be closed due to water levels exceeding the high water benchmark closure, enacted by the Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries Commission in Title 76. The closure is enacted when the USGS water level gauge CRMS 5373 reaches 3.0 feet. The deer season will open once the water falls below 2.5 feet on the gauge. The New Hampshire 2020 hunting season for ruffed grouse starts October 1 and runs through December 31. Woodcock season also opens October 1 and concludes November 14. New Hampshire’s hunting season for pheasant gets underway on October 1 and continues through December 31. This fall, 11,495 adult ring-necked pheasants will be stocked in all 10 counties with an average of 140 pheasants per site. The Wyoming Game and Fish Department needs help from hunters this fall to collect samples from deer for chronic wasting disease (CWD) testing in target hunt areas. Fatal Alaska Grizzly Bear Attack in Wrangell-St. Elias National Park/ Preserve

A hunter was killed by a grizzly bear in Wrangell-St. Elias National Park and Preserve in Alaska on Sunday, September 20, 2020. The hunter was a 22-year-old man from Ohio who was field-dressing a moose when he died in an attack so sudden that he couldn’t defend himself, National Park Service officials say. CDFW Seeks Authority to Refund Elk, Pronghorn Tags for Areas Impacted by Fire Closures

The California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) is pursuing a regulation change that would allow elk and pronghorn (antelope) hunters whose seasons were cut short or eliminated due to wildfires and forest closures to receive a refund of their 2020 tag fees along with a restoration of their preference points used to acquire their tags.
