LDWF Closes Maurepas Swamp WMA Deer Season

Maurepas Swamp WMA, which consists of 112,615 acres, is located approximately 25 miles west of New Orleans and along the south shore of Lake Maurepas west to near Sorrento. The WMA includes property in Ascension, Livingston, St. John the Baptist and St. James parishes. For more information on the WMA, go to: http://www.wlf.louisiana.gov/page/maurepas-swamp.

As OUR COUNTRY REOPENS AGAIN (from the COVID-19 pandemic) and continue to enjoy outdoor activities, ALL outdoor enthusiasts (man, woman, child) should follow the guidelines set by nps.gov. These guidelines include; social distancing, the Leave No Trace principles, including pack-in and pack-out, to keep outdoor spaces safe and healthy.
Deer season in the Maurepas Swamp Wildlife Management Area (WMA), scheduled to open Thursday (Oct. 1), will be closed due to water levels exceeding the high water benchmark closure, enacted by the Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries Commission in Title 76.
