Two Colorado Wildlife Areas Near Montrose close for the Winter Jan 1st

To protect big game animals, two Colorado State Wildlife Areas in the Montrose region will be closed for the winter starting Jan 1st. South of Montrose, all seven tracts of the Billy Creek State Wildlife Area will be closed from Jan. 1 through April 30. East of Montrose, the Cimarron State Wildlife Area is closed from Jan 1 through June 30. The annual winter closures have been in effect for more than 20 years. Colorado Wild Rainbow Trout Population Growing in the Gunnison River Gorge  Work to restore wild rainbow trout in the Gunnison Gorge is starting to pay off as the population of the species is slowly increasing, according to surveys conducted recently by Colorado Parks and Wildlife. CPW biologists are hopeful that the success on the Gunnison will eventually help bring wild rainbows back to all Colorado’s rivers and streams. DNREC Issues an Emergency Shellfish Closure at Lewes WWTP Area

As a result of the Lewes WWTP’s effluent bypass situation, DNREC Secretary Shawn M. Garvin has issued an emergency shellfish closure order for harvest areas downstream of the plant. Discharge from the WWTP flows into the Lewes-Rehoboth Canal, which predominantly flows to the Delaware Bay. Minnesota Issues Temporary Ban on Movement of Farmed Deer

The Minnesota DNR recently issued an emergency rule that temporarily prohibits the movement of all farmed white-tailed deer within the state. The rule, which went into effect Dec 23, is a temporary, emergency action to reduce further spread of chronic wasting disease and protect Minnesota’s wild deer.
