In order to purchase a nonresident Sawtooth Zone tag, an individual must have a valid 2020 nonresident hunting license.

Although the Idaho Fish and Game Commission recently suspended the sale of some nonresident licenses, permits and tags, nonresident hunters can still purchase a hunting license, which allows them to purchase an elk tag.

Important note: Please read these “best practices” carefully in order to purchase a capped tag online:

  • Fish and Game’s online security measures require buyers to establish a unique account with a user name and password. Before tags go on sale, hunters are encouraged to set up their online account well in advance and remember their user name and password.
  • Purchase your hunting license before tags go on sale. Tags will not be available to purchase until a hunting license has been purchased. By doing this before tags go on sale, the hunter is able to go straight to the list of tags to purchase when the sale starts.
  • Know when the tag is successfully purchased. Putting a tag in the online shopping cart does not reserve, award, or secure that tag. Tags are only awarded after successfully completing the payment transaction.

COVID-19
As OUR COUNTRY SLOWLY STARTS to REOPEN AGAIN (from the COVID-19 pandemic) and continue to enjoy outdoor activitie, ALL outdoorsmen (man, woman, child) should follow the guidelines set by nps.gov. These guidelines include; social distancing, the Leave No Trace principles, including pack-in and pack-out, to keep outdoor spaces safe and healthy.
Idaho Nonresident Sawtooth Zone elk tags go on sale 10 a.m. MDT, May 11. This year, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, nonresident Sawtooth tags can only be purchased online at https://idfg.idaho.gov/buy-online.

Sawtooth Zone tags are capped, and typically sell out extremely fast, because demand is much higher than the nonresident allocation of 274 tags (which does not include outfitter allocation).
