WDFW Extends Closure of Morse Creek WMA Unit near Port Angeles

The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) is extending the closure of the Morse Creek Wildlife Area Unit, located two miles east of Port Angeles, for up to a year to address chronic impacts to natural resources and public safety resulting from homeless encampments at the site. The decision is a continuation of an earlier closure in effect since December 2019. Washington to Close Sockeye Fishing on Skagit River Effective June 16

Fishery managers with the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) announced that the Skagit River will close to sockeye fishing June 16 to July 15 due to low projected returns. With an expected return of as many as 13,242 or as few as 8,056, forecasted returns of wild Skagit sockeye are the lowest they’ve been in the last five years and potentially below fishery manager’s broodstock goals. The California CDFW is now accepting applications for a limited number of deer and pig hunting permits for opening weekend of the A Zone general season, Aug. 8–9, 2020. Only official applications will be accepted and must be received before 4 p.m. on July 3. Idaho Angler Breaks Catch-and-Release Record for Catfish   Congratulations to Scott Turner of Boise, who recently set a new catch-and-release state record for channel catfish. Idaho Sets 2020-21 Migratory Game Bird Hunting Seasons & Regulations

The Idaho migratory game bird hunting brochure for 2019 and 2020 seasons is now available online on Fish and Game's website. Apply for Nebraska 2020 Big Game Draw Permits by June 26

Hunters may begin applying for Nebraska 2020 big game draw permits June 8. Residents and nonresidents may apply for one deer permit, residents may apply for one elk permit, and residents and eligible landowners may apply for one antelope permit. The application period begins at 1 p.m. Central Time on June 8. Oregon Adds Sixth Opening for Central Coast All-Depth Halibut

An additional weekend in July is added to Oregon’s Central Coast Subarea to replace the May 14-16 opening that was cancelled due to COVID-19 concerns. The Subarea includes ports from Port Orford to Garibaldi. Remaining openings are June 11-13, June 18-20, July 9-11, and July 23-25. Wildlife managers and biologists with Colorado Parks and Wildlife are preparing long range plans for the deer and pronghorn herds in Middle Park. The proposed herd management plans cover the area around Kremmling, Grand Lake, Granby, Winter Park, Frisco, and Breckenridge.
