Scotland Road and Cedar Grove VPAs consist of natural pine and hardwood uplands, planted pines, and small hardwood creek drains.  The areas will be open to hunting on the following 2020-2021 season schedule:
  • Deer (archery only) – Dec. 19, 2020 – Jan. 10, 2021
  • Small game – Dec. 19, 2020 – Feb. 28, 2021
  • Turkey – Mar. 20, 2021 – May 15, 2021

To deer or turkey hunt, hunters will need to sign-in on the free Outdoors Georgia app, online at https://license.gooutdoorsgeorgia.com/Event/WMASignIn.aspx, or locate the information kiosk at one of the area’s main entrances and sign-in on the clipboard.  Sign-in is not required for small game hunting.  View and create customized maps of WMAs at https://georgiawildlife.com/allwmas.

WRD is interested in leasing private land for public hunting and outdoor recreation opportunities.  Private landowners that enroll in the program are eligible for a negotiable lease rate, and are provided with a legal agreement giving maximum liability protection. Hunters in Laurens County have two new public hunting locations available this season.

Cedar Grove (294 acres) and Scotland Road (199 acres), both located between Dublin and McRae, Georgia, opened to hunters beginning Dec. 19, 2020, according to the Georgia Department of Natural Resources’ Wildlife Resources Division (WRD).

These new areas are two of several in Georgia in which landowners have worked with WRD in utilizing the U.S. Department of Agriculture Natural Resources Conservation Service-funded Voluntary Public Access (VPA) Program to provide short-term leases of their properties.  The lands are then included in the WRD Wildlife Management Area system for the purpose of allowing public hunting access.
