Vermont 2018 Regular Spring Turkey Hunting Opens May 1st

It’s almost time for spring turkey hunting in Vermont.  Youth spring turkey hunting weekend is April 28 and 29 this year, and the regular spring turkey season is May 1-31. Vermont hunters set an all-time record last year when they took 6,599 turkeys in the spring youth weekend and May seasons.  The previous spring record occurred in 2013 when 6,365 birds were taken in the spring. The Vermont walleye fishing season will open on Saturday, May 5, marking the return of some of the best walleye fishing in New England. WDFW Approves 4-day Razor Clam Dig Starting April 19  Washington clam diggers have one last chance to dig razor clams this season during the final opening set to begin April 19. State shellfish managers with the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) approved the dig after marine toxin tests showed the clams are safe to eat. British Columbia Changes to Black Bear Seasons in Haida Gwaii  Effective immediately, the black bear general open season hunt on Haida Gwaii is closed and is being replaced by a limited entry hunt. The current season started April 1, 2018. Starting today, guide/outfitters in British Columbia can now conduct many hunting business transactions online through one electronic system. Following recent successes in both enforcement and management efforts that have substantially reduced the number of illegal campers, the DLNR Division of State Parks will reinstitute the allowance of additional overnight camping permits for the popular Kalalau Trail, within the Napali Coast State Wilderness Park, Kaua‘i. The Maryland Department of Natural Resources has submitted revised regulations that aim to reduce the minimum size requirement of striped bass for recreational anglers and charter boats during the summer and fall fishing seasons in the Chesapeake Bay and its tidal tributaries from 20 to 19 inches.
